Are they a waste of money???

    Hi Girls,

Just wondering if any of you can tell me if you've used a bath seat for your baby? I am looking at both the lay down type (for younger bubs) and the type that you can use from 6mths (swivel bath seat) where the baby actually sits up in it.

My baby is 2 months old and I never used either with DD1 but I was thinking that they may be useful, especially when I bath the kids at the same time. I just dont want to buy them if they are a waste of money as this baby is going to be our last baby.

    Thanks

i used one for DS. I dont htink you can get them now, its like a wire frame and has a terry cloth rectangle piece of fabric that slides over it. you cant leave the baby unattended on here though, its like any other bath seat. I found it really helpful as I has trouble bathing DS in the early days.

Since Jazz has been able to sit up reasonabley well we use a sit up bath seat, a sesame street one like the safety 1st ones, and they are great. Jazz is a bath junkie LOL and can stay in for half an hour at a time, so we use it and it is geat, although a real PITA to get her out, we need two people! Since one of us is always in the bath with her, it gives her a chance to play with us in the bath.

i have one of those things that rayray mentioned - you can get them from target - they look good and i guess are a good idea - i think we used it once or twice in the baby bath - but found we had to hold bub anyway so it really wasnt any good! and i guess it would be the same for the big bath - so i wouldnt worry about getting those lay down ones!
as for the sit up ones - we are going to look into getting one - so i will be keeping an eye on this thread

I used the plastic lay down bath seat for DD. It had an adjustable middle piece so you could lower it as bub grew and it also kept them in place so they didn't slide down, iykwim . I found it very very handy and found it saved my back. She used it up untill she could sit unassisted (around 6mths) and then she would just sit in the bath on a cloth nappy so she wouldn't slip.

It didn't cost that much from memory so I would definately recommend investing in one

the lay down ones were crap. Your bub is out of the water and freezing!!

We used a baby bath until Mason could sit up and then he got a bath seat which swiels. they are awesome

From when DD was born, we used the BABYHOOD BATH SUPPORT (wire frame and terry cloth rectangle piece of fabric that slides over it), easily washable too. These are available from Babies Galore stores. This was extremely good and handy and we loved it! It fit the bath well so DD was always in the water, never out of it.

We bought a BATH SEAT too when DD was older. DD hated it. So she would just sit in the baby bath (she could sit up on her own by this stage). You can buy those non slip stick on things too. But now she is in a big bath and sits on a long non-slip mat. We wasted our money with the bath seat.

To tell you the truth, I wished I had asked BB also like you have done before I went out and bought things! Every baby is different though, yours might love the bath seat!

I spent so much money on un-necessary items though! Ah well, I know for baby number 2 down the track!!

    GL!!

I agree with queenbee, each baby is different. Jazz tolerated her baby bath TWICE before she'd scream the house down, she HATED not being able to float, kick and splash in the water, and those lay back bath seats, and even the babyhood support, would have been no use! So glad the baby bath and change table were given to us or I'd be kicking myself (we stopped using the change table from 3.5m). She's been in the big bath with us from about 2 weeks old!

Just adding I used our lay down baby seat in the baby bath, so the water was nice a deep and she didn't get cold.

But I also agree that every baby is different and what works for one may not work for another.

    Good luck

Yes every baby is different so its kind of a trial & error with each baby...

DD had a plastic seat thing that laid down for infants & sat up as they got bigger & had a play bar accross the front of it. We ended up getting rid of that once she was sitting up & got a swivel seat... fantastic!! She loved it.

At the moment for DS we have the wire bar one with the terry towelling square. Its a real back saver for me. I use it in the big bath & it means I dont have to be "holding" him the whole time. I can kneel on the floor at the side of the bath & admire my little boy enjoying his bath, sometimes with his big sister in there with him. He never has long baths yet so we dont have the problem of getting cold.

I sold DD's swivel seat when I moved to Townsville in 2006 (I tried to get rid of all her baby items... she had just turned 1) so I will be buying a new one for DS soon for when he starts sitting up by himself.

i have been thinking about getting something like that for this bub, dd had a sit up bath seat from about 6 months, it was an absolute godsend!

ive not looked into the little baby ones yet, but i did find it hard bathing dd in the big bath without any support, not sure how im going to go with 2!!

We never used one. We would hold him in the big bath when he was little (which does get a little tiring after a while, to be honest) and then once he could sit up we just sat him in there on a non-slip mat.
I'm sure some of them are probably really handy early on, especially if you have a bad back or anything like that.

Thanks for your replies. I went and bought a swivel seat today from Toys R Us, can't use it until my baby is 6 months old. Until then we'll use her baby bath, which she loves at the moment anyway.
