    Warning about NUK soothers

I discovered my 4 month old son choking in his bed today as the NUK soother he was using had twisted sideways, and he had pushed it into his mouth where it became lodged under his gums.

He was in great distress, and I was only gone for 30 seconds when this happened.

Please, if you are using these soothers, throw them out! I have ordered natural ones from ecochild which seem to be safer.

Please note that I am not an avid pacifier user: My son only uses a soother at home, in bed, when he won't settle as a last resort.

    Regards,

    Jess and baby Isaac

Oh my! Hope he is ok!

I will not use those anymore!!! It makes sense though to use big ones now I think about it. That way they cant push the whole thing in their mouths!

Wow that is really awlful and I am sorry you experianced that. From what I have read it seems to be just the "starlight" model. I have only ever used NUK with DD, she won't take any others as she prefers the teat shape of NUK. She mostly has the "Rose" ones. I just compared the two that I have (I got a packet of starlight just the other day.) and there is a difference although very small in shield size. However I note that on the Choice site they have amended thier warning saying that the "starlight" do comply to Aust. safety standards. However I think I will get rid of the 2 "starlight" ones and just stick to "Rose"

ETA: NUK have been mentioned in Choice however it was in an article from 2006, one would hope they had improved since then!! You can see it here

That's so scary. I hope everything is ok. We use NUK too.
We use the blue ones from the blue and rose pack thingies.
So it's the starlight type that you were using, jeskadesign?
