My Baby's father is refusing to sign baby's birth certificate (she is 10 weeks old) and I have to pursue him through the courts to confirm paternity (as much as I'd rather not have him in our lives). His family is so mortified about his actions that they are falling over themselves with love and generosity to me and their new grandchild.
I have a question, his family want to give us regular payments into a trust account for baby's education in the future. I receive single parents pension and family tax benefit A and B. Will this trust account in baby's name affect our income? I am paying off a mortgage which already takes up more than 50% or our pension and am receiving no assitance (yet) from the baby's father.
Hoping somebody may have some ideas, I want to be completely honest and open regarding my finances with Centrelink as I feel extremely fortunate to have this assistance since being abandoned by baby's father. I wouldn't be able to embark on this wonderful journey without this help.
provided the trust account is not accessible by you in any way shape or form, it is not YOUR money and therefore cannot be included
make sure the account is set up such that it can't be accessed by anyone other than your child when they come of age... if it is set up so that you have access, you may find it impacts you...
