weiered Question... but wanted to know!

While I was showering earlier today I decided to do a feel internally, anyway i thought seeings though i'm still 5 weeks from my EDD that all i would feel was a squishy thing (cervix and what have you) but to my suprise I felt a hard thing like bubs head!

is it possible to feel the head this early and if so what are the chancers of going early?

I was told with DS that the baby can sit there for weeks. But, you never know.

I was really dissappointed with that answer because I was effectively "over it" by your stage.

Have your other babies been early?

How the hell did you even get your hand down there?????- LOL
I havent seen my fanny properly for weeks - except in the mirror

i have enough trouble even wiping my own bum!!!!!
I admire you being able to check yourself out!!!!!

Seriously , if you are worried give your carer a call to see what they think- you have been living on the edge for a bit- so might be worth a quick phone call- otherwise you will have yourself worried
    take care hon!!!

I am not sure on that one hun. In your case, with all the BH and pains you have been getting you never know! I dont think your baby is going to stay in their until 40 weeks for some reason.

One thing I am sure of is that I am not going to let my DP know that bubs head could be that close or he will never ever DTD with me. This whole pregnancy he has been afraid of 'poking the baby' so if I check myself out and find that I will never get any again!

I did the same with number 2, felt his head from about 34 weeks and I made it to 38 weeks. But I was always a cm or 2 dilated being my second and all. And I did go into pre-term labour at 31 weeks. So maybe that's why he was down so low. Not sure. Thinking of it now, maybe I shouldn't have been feeling around. But curiousity got the best of me, would do it again, if I was pregnant. It was the best feeling, knowing what was going on down there.

How exciting for you to have felt the head, hope for your sake you make it to Full-term.

...::: lestypuss :::... DS1 was on his due date and DS2 was 2 weeks late but I have spent 10 days in hospital with threatened preterm labour at 28 weeks.

...::: odette :::... Squating is good when you don't think you can reach by standing up!

...::: AliBaby :::... I don't think bubs would last another 5 weeks either! i' told DF and I think he is a bit worried about it all even though he isn't saying cause he barely touched me last night!

...::: Brianna :::... I just inserted 2 fingers like your MW would do when doing an internal check!

The pains I've been getting since checking are crazy, my hips feel like they are being ripped apart, my back has started to ache and the BH are getting stronger! Hot showers aren't working and neither is the pain relief!

I really don't want to sit in the hospital on my pops birthday for hours with 2 kids by myself on a 40 degree day!

It's normal, as far as I know, to be able to feel your baby's head at that stage. I'm pretty sure I could with my last one. I don't think it is any indication of early labour. However, you could mention it to your midwife or ob at your next visit and ask if he/she thinks that bub is engaged or not.
As far as the pains go, that is likely because when you mess around with the cervix, it causes a hormonal release which triggers contractions. I hope they ease up for you soon!

There was a thread a while ago about checking your own effacement and dilation in late pregnancy. Alan gave some tips on checking your cervix there. I'll see if I can find it back for those who are curious. Just make sure that you always have CLEAN hands! Don't want to risk an infection.

Anyways, maybe someone with more definite information will pop in and give you a better answer about what you should feel at 35 weeks.

yay how exciting! you are so close to the end! ...and the new beginning...

OK, those are the two threads I was thinking of, but I'm afraid they won't be quite what you were asking about. They are both about checking how far dilated you are..... although, if you are wondering about early labour, that might be of interest to you too. If you think you are starting to efface and dilate, that would be something to let your midwife or ob know. Although I'm pretty sure that with your 2nd or 3rd baby, you can start to efface and dilate well before labour starts. But, at least you'd know whether anything was happening, or not.
