Not Sleeping, Fussy Feeder, Teething????

Hi all,
This is my first post (EVER!) to any site! So I hope I get everything right! My beautiful boy is doing my head in. Up until about 5 1/2 months of age he would feed beautifully (bottle fed), sleep for about 10 hours straight a night and wake and be very happy, plus have several sleeps during the day in excess of 1 - 1/2hrs each time. NOW, since the last 6-7 weeks or so we have been waking during the night, initially for food so I ended up feeding him during the night for a few weeks, then just waking up crying, and for the last few nights he has been waking up during the night, but being WIDE AWAKE!! He has just learnt to crawl (on boxing day his 6month anniversary) and will crawl all over his cot, pull himself up into standing in his cot and want to play. Try to feed, not interested, barely drinks 100ml a feed (and often this is painful to get him to drink) doesn't want solids and barely sleeps for longer than 1/2 hour 2 times a day. His gums seems a little red, but I can't really see a tooth yet. ANY THOUGHTS!!! About to go a little crazy if I am up playing at 2am like this morning, help help help! Thanks

hi, i have a nearly 6 month old ds and we are also going through the same thing. I was trying to feed him when he woke up but 10mins after he would wake up again. I've just realised it's his teeth waking him up because he's fussing and trying to get his whole hand in his mouth, he has no teeth but sore gums. I gave him the womens and childrens teething gel before he goes to bed and it helped alot. The first night he slept through. I found panadol wasn't strong enough. I hope that gives you any ideas

thanks heaps, with the teething gel do you mean bonjela? we have that and i'm using hylands teething pills, but don't want to overuse these things! we gave panadol yesterday due to slight fever, but didn't help the waking!

Just read your post and it sounds like I am going through the same thing you went through with my little girl. The only difference is for the whole 6/7 weeks so far is she has cut her feeds in half and cried if you tried to put the bottle back in. I was wondering how long it went for and when did he finally cut his tooth? Did the feeding go back to normal when the tooth came through? I'm alomost certain it is from her teething, and if I look at her gums I can actually see teeth in the gums .I am nearly at the nut home so any help would be appreciated. Kelkel

well it was a while ago that my DS was doing this and he did end up not wanting the night feeds. But alas, no tooth ever showed through so I guess it wasn't teething! I ended up weaning him off the night feeds and introducing a dream feed at around 10.30pm whilst he was asleep and it didn't take long for him to not want any more to eat at night and to sleep through, waking around 6.30am each morning.
Sorry I can't be much more help, my DS still doesn't want very much bottle, I'll be lucky to get about 400ml down him in a day and that is with me putting milk on his cereal too, so I guess some babies just go off their feeds?

Thanks for the reply. Well after this morning I know it is from teething. She had some crazy screaming attack and was hanging on to her lower gum the whole time. The signs have been there (nasty nappies, drooling, sometimes red cheeks, biting on anything she can get hold of) but I found it weird that she could go off her feeds for so long. She is only small to start with so it is scary that she is not drinking much. Guess I will have to persist with it. Thanks for writing back anyway. Kelkel
