I'm hoping someone can help as my baby girl has developed quite a flat head. We always put her down with her head to the side but she's always moved it back from day one. I'm wondering whether it's because we have her in an Amby hammock and if I should move her into her cot she might keep her head to the side more? Has anyone else experienced this? I give her plenty of tummy time when she's awake but I'm not sure what else I can do.
Hey Claire- my dd1 has a reasonably flat head due to being in a hip harness for 6.5 months and being on her back most of the time. It was really flat, but as soon as she learnt to sit...crawl, walk etc, it rounded out (not completely but better than it was). Loads of tummy time is good, sitting her in a bean bag, propped on pillows or rolling a towel up and putting it along side her to keep her head to one side and then alternate.
Shes still pretty young your dd so you have plenty of time for it to change shape. If youre concerned get your gp to have a look and maybe get a referral to a paediatirican.
Hi Melissa, thanks for your reply. That's reassuring to know that your DDs head rounded out once she learnt to sit. Thanks also for your suggestions - rolling up a towel is a great idea, I'll give that a go.
my sis little dd is 7 months old and she had to go to physio for a flat head. they showed my sis some exercises they have to do everyday to correct it. maybe get a referal from your gp, as it is hard to get them to sleep on the other side when they already favour one side, so i would say some exercises could help.
Thanks for the reply sirenz. Belle's flat head is on the back, not side. I just bought the Love Nest pillow so I'll see if that makes any improvement, otherwise I'll get a referal from my gp.

My DS1 had a little bit of a flat head on the back of his head. It wasn't anything that bothered me, which is suprising.
With DS2 he favored one side so the flat spot is of center. It's getting better slowly. The CHN didn't say much about it, just asked if it was getting better and it was/is so it's nothing to worry about for us. I hope it's the same for you.
We just changed the side we fed him on so it wasn't the one he favored and all that too. I used towels and stuff too or propped him kinda on his side and put a pillow behind his back so he couldn't roll back and go back to his fave side.
