    What Should I Ask For?

My Mum and My Best friend are organising a bab shwer for me and I already have ppl asking me what I would like them to get for me.
My Husband and I have already bought all he bg things (Cot, change table, car seat, pram, highchair, rocker, swing, monitor) - I also bought some clothes, blankets etc at the target baby sale.

What sort of things should I be asking for from ppl? Should I have a certain amount that ppl spend? I feel bad asking ppl to spend alot on a gift, especially when they will spend more money when the baby s born!..

    Help /Advice much appreciated

    Many Thanks

What sorts of clothes have you got? When I had DD we went through numerous changes of clothes a day. So perhaps more clothes would be good? Socks and singlets are a must IMO. Do you have nappies and wipes? If you're wanting to use cloth this would be the time to start thinking about buying some. Depending on what time you want, they can be quite expensive so you might want to research before putting them out there as a gift idea. Also, do you have any toys for bubs? Newborns don't really need toys as such but having a few things you can dangle in front of them or learn to reach out and grip (over time) is good for their development, and can be a less expensive option.

what about some bibs and some nice baby shampoo/wash?
you could also ask for some face washers, towels and little bath toys..

    A practical hamper:

    • Bonjela
    • Baby paracetomol
    • Sudocream/Bepanthen/Zinc cream
    • Moogoo
    • Small Dettol pack for when you are out and cant wash hands thoroughly to ensure clean
    • Teething rings
    • Baby thermometer
    • Nail clippers
    • Brush (yes you might need a soft bristle one - comes in handy for cradle cap)
    • Saline Fess for babies for their little blocked noses

You can spend heaps buying all the above yourself!

If disposable - a nappy service?
A houseclean so you dont have to worry for first couple of weeks.
Cloth nappies for if nothing else, spewy times

    Hope that helps!

my mum is organising shower down here for me, so we sat downa nd worked out what i was intending on getting for baby, took off what we have already, then left the rest as an idea

people will buy small things like singlets, socks, sleepsuits, wraps etc, but some will want to buy bigger things, so put a whole list of wants together - if someone gets it, so be it - if not, well bummer! no biggie!

    i included
    sock
    singlets
    nighties for bub
    wraps
    sleeping bags
    BOOKS!
    toys (lamaze etc)
    bibs etc

i als included a list of "please don't get" things as we don't want to use the supermarket baby wash stuff ( i have sensitive skin so bubs likely will), nappies (i'm using cloth) stuff like that so that people know to avoid them kwim?

I would suggest towels, muslin wraps (can never have enough!), mobile for cot, spewbies (facewasher thingys) and vouchers are always good (so you can go & buy stuff once bubs comes and you figure out what it its you really need!).

Vouchers are always good - for baby shops or a subscripton to ABA. Or even a massage voucher for you! And WIPES, WIPES and more WIPES!

Yeah, things you can never get too many of are (well I found anyway):-

    • facewashes
    • muslin wraps
    • singlets
    • clothes (even if its in the next size - they grow so quick)
    • sheets
    • toys (we too found/find the Lamaze toys pretty good)
    • books
    • little containers for food (it'll come in handy eventually)
    • baby wipes
    • bath towels
    • coat hangers

and maybe for those who want to spend a little more or can pool there money together gift vouchers (like ColesMyer ones) are the perfect gift.

one of the best used items was the big lot of nappies we got. also we got house safety stuff. which we didnt use straightaway but now is very very handy!

wraps are good to get and clothes are always lots of fun

maybe you could ask ppl to pitch in to get a baby carrier etc etc

If you want to breastfeed then ask people to put together for an ABA membership, or maybe someone will be able to just buy it themselves for you. You do need the support that they give.

Otherwise I would say something practical like nappies or other things that you will use constantly.

I like you had almost everything before having my baby shower but things that I got from people that were great were:

    - toys
    - feeding things (for whent the baby will be on solids
    - clothes in the next size or 2 up
    - muslin wraps
    - waffle blankets
    - books
    - baby bath products
    - nappies
    - gift vouchers (a nice way of asking for this is just to say "if you're struggling I love to shop or have a layby at .... for such and such a shop")

    Have fun at your shower.

I also wasn't sure what to ask people for as we'd brought most things ourselves and consequently we ended up with a lot of stuff we didn't use and I felt even worse (e.g. baby towel sets and baby washes which we don't use (organic is so much better for my bubs skin and available from normal supermarkets for not much more)!
I really wish I'd ask for people to put some money towards photos. We paid for a professional photographer to come to our home and do a shoot which was about $200 for the shoot and then photos on top. I thought it was a bit pricey to start with but friends have done the pixie photo thing and have ended up paying just as much and the shots we got were so beautiful and I made thankyou cards with some of the shots. Just a thought.....

    *lux Flakes
    *nappy liners
    * nappies
    *Milton
    *Baby bath and Shampoo
    *nappy sacks
just a few ideas as i know mysef these all add up and can be expensive.
maybe even a nice baby book to keep you busy in hosiptal.

Childondaway- Im one of those ppl that dont like asking for certain things. A lady I know suggested having a chocoholics anonymous party.
