...I thought mine was....but i was wrong.

I have cild proof locks on my oven switches. I have trouble opening them.

Well tonight Chelsea was opening and closing the oven door. DH and i kept forever asking her to stop and taking her out of the kitchen. About 10 minutes later i heard a small cry and she came running to me and showed me her hand....i couldnt see anything and she ran away again. Then i hear 'Hot sissy'....and i am thinking WTF. So i run to the kitchen to see Chelsea has turned the oven ON.

DH checks her hand and sees that her left ring and little fingers are pretty burnt and quickly got them under cold water. All this time she wasnt crying, just saying ouch.

I then took her to the doctors to get it checked out. The Dr said it all looks ok, looks dry and was thankful we had them under cold water so fast.

We have to go back on Sunday to see how badly (if it has) done any damage. Poor possum...i feel so bad right now...and i thought id done the right thing with child proofing.

So please....CHECK ALL YOUR PROOFING just incase theres something you have missed, or that your child can out smart!!!

Chelsea can also undo our child proof door handles, which ive now had to sticky tape up so she cant open the locks. She can open our child proof draw locks and get into knives and other nasty implements.

I swear she is to smart for her own good!

i found the little triangler shaped fly screen holders ( normaly put on out side windows ) work really good for cupboard doors cause little fingers cant grasp them to turn them . im yet to have the trouble with the oven but im thinking in going to have fun keeping her away from the fire screen in winter .

we have an electric oven. It is always turned off at the wall unless we are using it. Just when you think everything is child proof they get into something else. Hope her fingers are ok. We had hand cream all over the lounge rug this morning, she loves waiting until I am bf to try something naughty or should I say new lol

My house is baby proof. and whenever my boys discover another danger that i didn't see i fix the problem. Better safe than sorry.

Can you block off your kitchen all together with gates.

I used to have gates dividing the loungeroom from the kitchen so she couldnt get in...but then she became an escapee and used to climb the gates and jump over...

Oh dear I have visons of this child hurdling over baby gates!!!

we will ahve issues as we have a very open kitchen and not sure if wall and cupboard edge will be able to put a gate on.

oh Kim, that's so hard.

i'm assuming you have an electric oven, i would not know how to childproof an electric oven, if that's what was in our rental. i'm so lucky there is a gas oven here, so harder for a child to turn on, although they could still gas themselves.

apart from childproof locks, which Chelsea clearly is too clever for, and childproof gates - which she climbs over - what else could you do?

Plus C has another advantage at the mo, parents who have a newborn on their hands! a mummy who is recovering from having a baby, so your and Craig's tiredness and focus on Z, means she has worked out she can do more stuff, undetected. she is one clever cookie!

you can't watch them every second, you're doing all you humanly can.

i am DREADING when bilby can climb over the gates. she's just learnt or got tall enough to open doors now. but it's the child proof gates that stop her (for now).

but don't be hard on yourself hon. she won't have the worst burns cos you acted so quickly with cold water. (note to self, must book in for child first aid course, been meaning to do that since i became preg).

Her ring finger looks pretty nasty this morning....she took the tape off. Dr said keep them dry....hmmm not so easy with a small child and a hot day. Her little finger whilst looks yuck, seems better then her ring finger.

dd1 was an angel, i didnt have to baby proof anything, she just didnt do anything to worry about!

this one, however, already has a very cheeky smile... time will tell wht she gets up to!

Ouch....i know when i burn myself pulling something out of the oven and i wack my hand or something on the trays it stings for agggggggges....poor little thing must be going thru it all. I hope its not as bad as you think tom at drs......

Ouch, poor thing! We have put our baby gate up so Ava-Jayde can't get into the kitchen. Of course when she gets big enough though, that will have to change. But as of last week Ava has figured out how to turn power switches on and off, so I need to go get something to cover that *sigh* I didn't think i'd have to have one of those places that is having to be changed for bubs. She is really good usually and knows what she isn't allowed to touch. I still have piles of cd's that she won't go near cause she knows she gets into trouble. But I guess kids will be kids eh

Well its not good news on the finger, dr thinks she has done some damage to it. It has been dressed in cream to help the burn, and we need to go back tomorrow to have it re-dressed and more then likely for the nect few days.

If the cream is Silvasene cream.. you can get a prescription for it and apply it yourself kim.. save you having to go back everyday. then in like a weeks time you go back and they check it. thats what i had to do when i got third degree burns on my leg!

Thanks Kirsty, no i didnt get a script, the nurse asked if the Dr gave me one, but he never did. Ill ask when i go back tomorrow if i can get one so i dont have to keep going back.

I hope she hasnt done serious damage
