    What to take to hospital

I know theres lots of lists around on BB, but when/does your hospital give you a list of things that you'd need to bring along?
Im hoping its kinda soon, so I can get organised! I am pretty set for me, but different hospitals require you to take different things for the baby.

With DS i got a list early on and that hossy suppied EVERYTHING for baby. Nappies wipes lotions etc etc and you could take what they gave you home if there was stuff left. With DD i didnt even think about it and lucky for me i packed everthing for bubs cos they suppied nothing except 1-2 nappies- no wipes either) i ended up sharing my wipes with the girl next to me cos she didnt realise you have to bring them. If you dint have one maybe ask at your next visit JIC.

Ray, I don't think our hospital gives us a list unfortunately

Maybe ask your m/w if she has a list of her own? Otherwise, I am sure there isn't anything specific we should be bringing.

    Maybe Fee can help?

I am going through public system and I got a list in the initial package/folder of info they gave me. I didnt know it was there until I asked my miwife what I needed to bring.

For 2 nights stay they recommended:
    - 6 nappies a day (have to bring own)
    - wipes
    - plenty of underwear
    - maternity pads (I have put in 2 packets as I would rather have more thatn less)
    - box of tissues
    - face washer
    - personal toiletries (like shampoo/conditioner/makeup
    - camera
    - clothes for myself
    - clothes for baby

As others have said, every hospital is differnt so I would give them a call or ask at your next appointment.

damn, it worries me that you have to provide your own face washer! that's kinda sad

i'm sure i'll be one of those people that over packs (i almost always do when we go away) but i'm guessing it's better to over pack than under pack

we have a "good camera" (DSLR) and a little point and shoot - just from a security perspective i think i'll take the little one - SIL will be there a bit with her camera and i'm sure mum will show with hers, so for the times it's just DH and I, a little camera should suffice

I know I thought that was a bit strange as well. They provide towells and stuff but not a face washer?? Weird!

I'll ask at my m.w appt. I know they dont provide clothes for bub, where the hospital I had DS at do so I want to find out what other differences there are.

I had a list and then had a prem baby, which meant they supplied disposable nappies, cream etc where as if she wasn't prem i would have to supply dispoables (they only provide cloth) and creams etc. I was given a few pads a day when they cleaned the bathroom so used a mix of my own and hosp's. So it can not only depend on the hosp but on the baby! They did have samples of things such as cotton buds for cleaning the cord, bathing stuff etc. Again since i had a prem this was all provided in the nursery so i didn't need much. By choice i provided my own baby clothes but i could have used there's too.

There is a pamphlet around, whether they are still using it or not I am not sure.

    Pads (surfboards)
    Pjs
    Clothes
    Clothes for bubs
blankets for bubs (hospital has some but lots get stolen)
    camera
nappies (i recommend disposable as you dont want cute MCN stained with Mec or go missing) they do have cloth flats and snibs.
    VMR
    wipes
    toiletries
Old tshirt or nightie for labour (or you can wear yucky hospital one)
    lollies (labour for energy)
    plastic massager
    music for labour
socks (cold feet common in labour)

I think the biggest thing to check/confirm is nappies - I just heard of a friend of a friend who birthed at a hospital where they do not supply nappies and she hadn't brought any so they had to sticky tape two maternity pads to the bub while someone ran out to buy nappies.

    Bit sad.

Whereas my hosp supplies nappies so it wouldn't be a problem. But they do not supply waterproof covers so I've got to take some of them.

    HTH!

most hossys usually have the basics, nappies, bottles etc blankets .but its always good to make sure.

make sure u dont forget nappies, bottles ( if u r Bottle feeding) pads,clothes/jumpsuits for bubbs.
