    Big fat ankles.....?

Hi, I have had swollen ankles etc in the last couple of weeks, especially when I have been standing heaps etc during the day, but today they are seriously HUGE, and my feet are really swollen and all tingly, I can feel the swelling iykwim.
My BP has remained the same all through pregnancy and has been perfect, even when I have been "seeing stars" off and on.
I am just a bit worried about the large amount of swelling today, because I seriously did not do anything and it was actually quite a cool day, and while I haven't had an actual headache, I have felt a bit "headachey" off and on, which is really unusual for me.
I am probably just over reacting, but was wondering if I should get my BP checked? I am going back to GP on Monday, so I am not sure if I should just wait till then or not??

Give your hospital a call.. the mid-wives are usually pretty good.. well i've found that. Just let them know your 38 weeks and all the other symptoms.. they'll let you know to go in or not.

hang in there matey.. we are nearly finished!

Cindy, I am going to go and get checked tomorrow as well. My bp has been playing up a bit lately even though it has been perfect throughout my pregnancy. Today though I have noticed my feet have swollen quite badly and I havent had any swelling throughout my whole pregnancy even on those really hot days.
Think it is better to be safe. Big to you and if you have time go tomorrow.

Hey Cindy, I agree with Mum of Many - it's worth getting checked out - a local chemist could check it for you (although not at this time of night).

Having said that, my feet have been permanently swollen to some degree for the past 6 weeks or so. Often worse on hot/busy days but sometimes not and sometimes bad on cooler days. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. My bp has been great the whole way through as well but I haven't had anything else going on like seeing stars or getting headaches.

If you're worried, trust your instincts and get checked. If it's all good, at least you'll be able to stop worrying.

    Hope its all ok.

    *snap* Ali!

Thanks Guys, I might try and get some sleep now, and see how they are in the morning, and if they are still the same, I might pop in to see the midwives and get checked. Wow there are lots of us still waiting to pop!

Elevate your feet in bed. Put them on a pillow or three. It's not the most comfortable sleep ever but nothing is that comfy at this stage!

That is what I have been doing and my feet almost return to normal by morning. At least so I can get my shoes on (although I don't need to worry anymore as I'm no longer at work).

Thanks Kaz, I will give it a go! I read some of your posts in your bbuddies thread, and it sounds like you were a bit crazy like me, and worked pretty hard close (well in your case, up to!) to your due date! I was working 10-11 hour days hairdressing until this week- and while they swelled, they were never as bad as today, so go figure!

Yeah mine have been pretty bad today too but it is reasonably hot here and I was doing housework this morning so that might have 'set them off'!! I think I am retaining heaps of fluid because my calves get tight with it too. If you want to see a gross photo, I posted one in my gallery showing what my legs and feet look like after taking my work boots off. It's pretty bad.

Ok, I think you're officially madder than me! 11 hour days They suck at the best of times! I was working 6-8 hour days and sitting on my ample bee-hind for the majority of that time. Glad you've stopped working. Good luck with your labour/birth!

    Thanks Kaz, you too. xoxox

(I am not quite as crazy as I sound, I was only doing it 2-3 days a week!! But, I have to say that now I have stopped I have no idea how I kept going soooo long! Actually I do, I am a sucker and I can't say no, especially cos I work for myself, so my clients are a bit like my children!! But, never again!)

Ha, I am a public servant and stayed on so long for the clients too (although I don't see them as my children). Maybe I am the crazier after all?
