14mth old awake for up to 3 hours a night

    Hi all
DS is generally a pretty good sleeper.
    BUT
for the last 2+ weeks he has been waking anywhere between 12.30 and 1.30 and staying awake for around 2 hours.
If left alone he will just stand up or sit up and cry. If we go in there and attempt to quieten him with shhing patting he stops crying but generally still doesn't go to sleep until his 2 hours is up. Picking up and rocking doesn't seem to really help either - he just seems to be wide awake.

He has 1 nap a day or around 2 hours.

Any suggestions what is going on. I'm getting more and more tired and grumpy!

He started walking last week - maybe that is what is causing such bad nights ???

    How long will this last?

    thanks

DD did this too at around his age. It nearly drove me insane, especially since I was working part-time!

I must admit that I just brought her into bed with us and bf her for a little while (I dropped that after a couple of months and started offering water). Then I decided I was sick of getting up and took the sides off her cot and let her find her own way into our bed! No problems after that and after a couple of months she stopped coming in overnight and would wait until first thing in the morning when she wakes up.

Personally, it wasn't the waking up that bothered me as much as the time spent standing cold in the dark trying to re-settle her in her cot. So I took the cot out of the equation! It will pass.
