i was told i could have the WC one, and it would be advised, within a week of giving birth - it was safe while BF - i'm guessing it should be the same for TTC - if you can BF, you should be abel to TTC - i'd probably just get the jab when AF visiting...
hmm... is this something I should have considered before ttc? If we're unsuccessful this month I might ask my GP about it.
Is pertussis one of the ones they test for in the gazillion tests they do for pregnancy? Is it something I can do once the baby arrives? Is that good enough?
Sorry to hijack.. just figured it wasn't worth starting a new thread
Liz - i asked GP about it a couple of weeks back - the Pertussis vaccine can be administered straight after birth, and doesn't impact the BF relationship at all. from what she said, at the moment they are actually encouraging new parents to have the jab within a week of the birth... i don't believe immunity is screened during routine immune testing during the pregnancy, so perhaps that is something you can ask about...
DH and I will be getting the jab just after Gremlin arrives...
I had it about a week or so after giving birth and continued to breastfeed etc. They recommend the booster shot for new parents (and anyone else who will be in close contact with babies -- my brother and parents also got the jab) and some states offer them for free.
I had the jab just over 2 weeks ago on the recommendation of my GP (because I had bad chest problems last winter).
We got told not to TTC for 6 weeks after receiving it.
If you don't need it before, I suggest you wait. I don't know what it's like in other states but we were told that in Vic, it's free for mothers & fathers of newborns (a friend of mine had it just last month). Wasn't a cheap one to have to pay for.
