Back to the drawing board for our girls name

    Hello Everyone,

I have been fairly sure the whole pregnancy that our baby girl will be called Eva. However, due to language differences DH and I pronounce the name differently.

I say Eeva and he says Ever!! Now I don't mind Ever but DH doesn't like Eeva. However, when I say Ever I think of the words - "Whatever Ever!! Now my Mum has brought this same issue up and my niece ran around the house the other night saying "Eva whatever"!!!

So DH and I were discussing other options. We've come up with the name Kasia

    Kasia Eve or Kasia Jewel

    Kasia means pure.

Any opinions would be lovely thanks

I knew a Kasia and she was such a beautiful person, definitely like it!
Eva is much nicer however and I think your DH's pronunciation is just weird!!
    Good luck with the negotiations!

    How about Ava instead?

I really like Kasia - Eve or Jewel are lovely middle names but I like Eve more

    OMG, I'm so sad

LOL! I'll get over it though...I just thought Eva was the perfect name for her...

To be honest, I've never heard Kasia before and I'm not sure if I like it or not...will have to get used to it I think.

Willow - I was driving this arvo and I can't get the name Eva out of my head. Sara always calls her baby Eva. I will have to tell DH that the pronounciation is EEva final!!! I have been vettoed twice with names.

I like Kasia but I don't love it

Kasia is nice, but I prefer Eva.

What other nice Polish names are there? I'll try and do a quick run through of my relo's who have the prettier names:

    Alina
    Ania
    Gizela
Joasia (I think I've spelt this correctly, she gets Asher for short)
    Kasienka
    Lila
    Zofia

How do you pronounce Kasia? I could see that being misleading. Is it like Cassia, the delicious, cinnamon like bark spice? Or more like ka-sha? Or is it more like case-ee-a?

I always loved Eliska (Eliszka? Only know the CZ version) but you've already used Ellyse. Also, Aussies just wouldn't get it.

I'm Aussie and I get it.

Bek - I'd say stick with Eva!! You've so had your heart set on it. Seriously, once she's born you won't call her different names ie Eeva/Ever, that would just be weird so stick to your guns!! I've been vetoed twice too and it's not fair! LOL.

I like Kasia as well as Eva.
Actually when I first read Kasia I thoght it was Kai See A

I think if you have been thinking this name all along then you should just go with it regardless BUT in saying that you may have this name picked out but when you see bubbie another name might just spring into your head "She looks like a ....."

    Best of luck deciding

I was thinking the same today..

Now my list consists of Eva Gabrielle or Grabrielle Eve..depending on what she looks like

This may sound kinda strange, but if you just can't agree, perhaps you can each accept to pronounce it how you each like it? My DH prefers the short version of a girls name that I like, and wants to call her that. I am insisting that her name be the long version, but that he can just call her the short version, which will no doubt be her nickname anyway -iykwim?
Chances are most people would just call her Eva (pronounced EEva) anyway - as that is how we pronounce the name in this country! But at home she will get Ever from her Dad....?
Another thought - find out if there is a movie with a really beautiful woman named Eva (pronounced EEva of course) in it. The positive association between 'EEva' and 'beautiful woman' may then just be enough to make him go, "Mmmm, maybe I can accept that..."
    LOL.....

Names suck, don't they? Why can't they just accept that as we have to push the baby out of our ......... or get it cut out of our stomachs, we get the final say???!!!
