2 week old just slept 8 hours then woke up for a feed! I feel awful!

My dd is two weeks old and has just slept through the night (unintentionally). I fed her at 8.30 last night, a formula feed, and set my alarm to go off at 12.30am. Normally during the night she doesn't stir much so I set the alarm for 4 hourly and wake her up, or I get up if she wakes earlier. Last night my alarm didn't go off, and she didn't stir until 4am! I feel terrible that she went all night like that without a feed. Of course she's just had a massive feed now and is ready to go back for another sitting, but will it hurt her to go that long?

I noticed the minute that my dd had formula she slept ALL night.. I don't really think it's anything to worry about. She obviously needed it babe.

If she was hungry she would have woken up . . . hungry babies let you know that they are hungry. Don't feel bad - enjoy the sleep!

unless there are other issues - i.e. she hasnt been feeding properly or is unwell, then there should not be an issue.
DS was a great night sleeper for early on he'd sleep for 5 hours a night minimum and stopped waking for night feeds, for good, at about 3-4 weeks old

As long as she has been well and healthy and putting on weight steadily, been bright eyed and bushy tailed etc - I wouldnt worry at all.

At this age they really need regular feeds - so be prepared for some catch up today from her - she may snack a bit more

What a great sleep!!! I wouldn't be concerned unless there is a reason that you need to feed 4 hourly. DS had jaundice and we had to wake him 4 hourly around the clock as he wouldn't wake on his own. Once he was over it we started demand feeding.

That's fantastic. Dn't worry about it, as the others have said he will wake up if he's hungry. He also may need more feeds or bigger feeds during the day.

Mine all slept through the night as well and I used to get so worried, just like you. DS actually slept 8 hrs a night from birth. I was very spoilt I think.

Oooh - where do I put in my order for one of these all night sleepers from birth? Lol . . . I would love it if my kids slept that long from birth.

My DS2 had been sleeping 8 hours at night sice we came home from hospital. It means very full boobs in the morning, and he wants his first few feeds closer together than in the afternoon, but he is fine. Growing rapidly and filling plenty of nappies; just what you want a newborn to do.
Don't feel bad! If babies want food they let you know. Stop setting your alarm and get some sleep.

    I think it depends.

DD wasn't putting on weight very well and I was told to feed her 4-hourly at minimum. I did think that she would wake up if she was hungry but what no-one told me was that if she wasn't generally feeding well, she might actually be too exhausted to wake up and end up dehydrated.

I certainly noticed that when I let her sleep five hours when she was about two weeks old. When we did wake her, she was obviously not her usual self - seemed very lethargic and just not right.

Having said all that, if you baby seemed fine after eight hours sleep and generally feeds well and there's no concerns about weight gain then enjoy the sleep!

But above all, don't feel bad - it was an accident and certainly won't cause her harm from just a one-off.
