Heartbeat present and everything grown except the embryo!?

Hi there, my gestational sac has grown nicely and is measuring 26mm (mean sac diameter). There is a fetal pole present with a heartbeat. Yet the fetal pole has not grown for the past week and is measuring just 3.7mm. I have had no spotting or pains. My HCG level is at a good level and doubling. Heartbeat is present and has been present for the past 2 weeks. According to my own dates i should be 8 weeks. At scan 1 I had just the yolk sac present. At scan 2 fetal pole and heart pulsations were present. At scan 3 fetal pole and heartbeat was present. The scans were spaced at weekly intervals. The sac has grown 11 mm in the past week to a mean sac diameter of 27mm, and heartbeat is present, but fetal pole does not appear to have grown since last week. Is this pregnancy still viable? Help!?

Cheyne, not sure i can offer anything but just hated seeing your unanswered post!

All I would say is that I have no idea how much my DS and this baby grew in the first 8 weeks! I didnt get the scans done that close together. I wonder what we would have seen if we had?

I would think that the other indicators that you have described all sound great! What does your Dr think? And why are you having scans every week? Is it because they are worried about growth so early on?

There are so many different stories here on BB I am sure someone will have had a similar experience and be able to tell you all about thier bouncing babies!

Hi there, I went for a scan today, and discovered that the baby's heart has now stopped. The pregnancy has not been viable for three weeks they told me - because the embryo was not growing. Apparently, once an embryo ceases growing for a period of 5 days it satisfies the criteria for diagnosing an inevitable miscarriage. Although my little one's heart continued for three weeks after it stopped growing I am glad it is now at peace. Thanks for you kind words and support. All best wishes to you and your little ones. xxx

Hi there, I went for a scan yesterday and we found that the heartbeat has now stopped. I went for another scan at a different hospital today to confirm this. My gestational sac and the placenta have grown a great deal, but the baby has not grown at all for three weeks and is now floating in a sac which is enormous while it is just a tiny thing. It's heart has stopped. My little one put up a strong fight and miraculously kept its little heart beating for three weeks after it stopped growing. But at last it is finally at peace. Thankyou for your kind thoughts and support. All best wishes to you and yours xx
