We have the Canon EOS 400D which I think is pretty similar specs to the 1000D now. I love it. It is very easy to use and gives great pics.

We have had it for 2.5 years and it still looks as good as the day we got it and we have taken over 20,000 pics with it. I do intend to learn to use it properly some day, but for now I just leave it on automatic and it does a great job anyway. It is the entry level DSLR, but for family snaps I think it is all you need.

They are reasonably expensive, but you will feel justified every time you press the button and get an instant shot rather than the digital click................snap delay which used to drive me mental.

Holla! I have a Canon SLR 1000D and i LOVE it. You won't regret getting one, trust me! I know the initial outlay in alot, but once you have it they last forever. I originally had a film SLR canon cam, because I hated the click snap lag that you got with digitals too, but after doing some research (or embracing technology, whatever you'd like to call it) I upgraded to the digi about 12 months ago... although my film one is still hammering along. Not a prob.

Everything loads up JPG, you'll get software with it that will get it going all automatically, super easy to use, and also another program for editing etc... also super easy to use. Mines yet to take a bad photo Happy camera shopping!! xx

I agree with Teagz... they are awesome cameras!!!

I haven't had one issue with my 1000D and have had since Jan last year. It takes fantastic pictures and the settings are good fun to play with (but can all be easily reset - gotta love that Automatic setting!)

Even though it's a DSLR camera, when it's on one of automatic settings, it can very much be used as a 'point and shoot' camera...

I would TOTALLY recommend this camera...

I just got this camera tonight. So far I'm loving it but I haven't had a chance to play with it much. Will do lots of playing tomorrow at lunchtime though.
