    Nikon D40 DSLR

Hey. Am thinking about getting a good camera. Just a beginner. I love photography but have never really done anything about it. I want to start learning before I have a baby so I'm all practiced up for then.

So...seeing as I don't know much about what's good or not I need some advice. I've been looking around and I like the look of the Nikon D40 DSLR. Is this good??

    hi there

i have the Nikon d50 (as does my SIL) - my mum has the d40 - pretty straight forward to use, takes great piccies - you can get lots of "extras" as you get more advanced in your use. i've noticed there seems to be a bit of a mix of the nikon and the canon digi SLR's with users on BB.... have had my camera almost 2 years with no drama's at all...

DH and I just bought the Canon EOS40d with USM lens - it is amazing. Sure it was expensive and is a little heavier than the 400d but it is truly amazing. The shots it takes are so sharp and even though I am only an amateur photographer, my snaps look like they're out of national geographic mag! Def. worth considering. If you google them you can find some good reviews. We also found some helpful info on youtube too. Good luck & enjoy your new camera (when you decide which one).

    Thanks for the info guys!
The main problem with my normal camera is the stupid delay when you're trying to take a pic, you always miss the moment, so I thought it was time to upgrade. When I have little kids I will definately need a faster camera. Also want one that takes great pics. And I would like to learn about cameras and all the settings and stuff so this one sounds like a good one to start off learning the basics with by the sounds of it.

DH and I were in Harvey Norman and they had it the cheapest we've seen it anywhere so we got it!!
I'm so excited! I'm taking photos of everything and nothing!! It's great!
So much to learn so no doubt there will be lots of dumb questions from me soon, rofl!
