I did some painting with DS the other day and was surprised at how relaxing and absorbing I found it. I was thinking of giving it a go as a hobby because I really need something that isn't work, and that is just for me to enjoy.
But I don't know where to start. I don't want to outlay a whole lot of money. I was thinking of trying acrylics because I like strong colours. Am I going in the right direction? And what else do I need to get or think about?
Maybe have a look for an evening course? Just to find dome mediums that appeal, and then they can guide you as to what the essentials are?
Or if you go along to your local art supplies shop, they always seem to have a load of flyers for art classes?
Olivia did art classes last holidays, in a local art and craft centre, and I am enrolled for next term myself.....I cannot wait (for all the same reasons as you mentioned: so relaxing and absorbing.......)
I haven't painted since school, and now Olivia is so into it, I find my head in all sorts of creative places: its lovely!
I agree, go to your local art supplies shop and ask around. There are heaps of classes out there... and they will help you go through what you like and can explore.
Personally, when I was at uni I used clay to help relax me and would throw pots... I was going to look into pottery next year.
