    Have you got a vaporiser?
Similar to the bathroom/steam, but at least you can lie down.

You plug it in to wall with water and some eucalyptus oil in it and it makes steam vapours and makes it easier to breath. Can buy at chemist or priceline.

    Hope he is better soon

It's a fabulous device! It heats water and pumps the steam into the air and you can add eucalyptus oil. They plug in and have a water vessel which lasts about eight hours. I bought one from the chemist for about sixty dollars. It's a very worth while investment.

Definately a vapouriser DS got a little bit of a cold when he was 4 weeks old and this helped heaps. If u have any eucoluptus oil around put some on the bottom of the shower floor when you put the hot water on.
Also elevate where he is sleeping to help him breath a little better, and baby vicks on the chest and bottom of the feet.

    Hugs to you.

I own a Vicks vapouriser which I use with only water. You simply fill it up with water (and vicks/eucalyptus etc which is optional but I think unsuitable for little babies), plug it into the powerpoint and it gently lets off a little steam into the air. It creates moisture in the air - similar to the effect of a hot shower. I found it very useful in DD's first year when she caught many colds.

Another idea is raising the mattress/cot a little higher - difficult if you're cosleeping, but works well with a cot or bassinet. I used to sleep sort of sitting up with baby on my chest for as long as I could. Also b/feeding was done with baby in a more upright position.

I also used a product called "Karvol" which contains capsules filled with an oil mix (can't remember the blend but I think it was eucalyptus or tea tree oil and similar). You simply break the capsule and drop the oil onto some of the bedding or a hankerchief (not on baby), where the vapours can gently be inhaled. I used this around the age of 8 months, so you might need to check the packaging/pharmacist if it's suitable for newborns.

Hope some of this helps. My second DD is the same age (3 weeks this Wednesday!), so I'll need to review all of these tips for myself too.
