Love it cause its different. I wanted to call Nikolaus, Harley...Jed wouldnt let me![]()
Ok, well this is purely conversational, just wondering what everyone thinks of the name Chevrolet?
DD1 told me yesterday there's a girl at school all the kids call "Chev"...her full name is Chevrolet. DH and I had a giggle speculating whether she might have a brother called Harley. DD1 didn't understand why it might be funny because she didn't know it was a car brand and said she loved the name, it was considered *very cool* at school (might I add a Catholic school with lots of traditional names). Just wondering what ppl think of this name and other vehicle-related names???

i went to school with a selica!
I think it's an awful name. Perfect example of why unusual is not always better.
I do not like it, although if I was a boy my Dad wanted to call me 'Shane Chevy'... lucky I'm a girl! I do not like the name Harley either.
I don't like it as a name at all. Before I looked to see where this thread was, I thought you were asking about car recommendations! I don't mind the name Harley, although I wouldnt use it myself, I am more of a conventional gal![]()
I know a Chevy but as far as I know thats his full name, so not Chevrolet but close.
Mmmmm, nah, I wouldn't use it, I don't like it and don't really think it makes a good name for a person... Love Harley though, and even Holden hehehe
Wonder if her bro is Porsche or Ferrari? Another two names that would make me cringe eeek! lol
I don't mind Chevy, but not keen on chevrolet
Not a fan ...
i know someone who named her son sunny holden and her daughter calais
Nope not a fan at all.
I think it is a real bogan name - ie: that child would be branded as a bogan and treated as one before people had the chance to find out otherwise (or alternatively, whether they were correct in boganifying him).
Incidentally, Harley is actually an old English name meaning "meadow" or "from the Hare's Wood" (how surpirsed was I to find the well spoken retired-barrister father of the bride at a wedding I went to once was a Harely!)
As for Holden, it too is an old english name meaning "deep valley".
"Calais" Greek, meaning "chaging colour" (or something similar).
I have a good friend called Porsche, went to school with a Calais and also a Ford. There is a Harley and a Mercedes in my sons class at school.
I think names are a personal thing and it doesnt really matter where the name originated its how it suits the child.
Corban was actually a brand of Wine in NZ and I got Ardyn from Elizabeth Arden. I never think of those things when I use their names just like I dont think of boys scouts when I call Scout.
yeah rory lol but they were named after cars
Sorry to anyone who is thinking of using it, but I think it's terrible. And the nick name Chev makes me think of Chevvie Chaise...no thank you. I can't stand him.
I have a cousin called Harley Davidson - I kid you not. I don't mind it too much, because Harley on it's own is fairly innocuous - I would never call a child Holden though kwim? As for Chevrolet, I went to school with a boy called Chev, middle name Row, last name Lay, so when it was all said together it was Chev Row Lay, but you rarely get called by all 3 names so 99.9% of the time it was just Chev Lay.
I wouldn't use it for any of mine, but I don't see how it is a great deal different to Mercedes or Porscha really.
I wanted to call Jesse Harley! Still wish I did sometimes...
I don't mind the more common ones. Mercedes, Harley, Porche/Portia. I think Chevvy, or Chev is cool. Not sure about Chevrolet... Bit long for me.
I still absolutely LOVE the name Harley, & can't believe I didn't use it, but I just couldn't picture a grown man with the name Harley. I love it even more as a girls name!
