Its reminds me of Lionel Ritchie as well, so I voted no.

Does it have a special meaning to you? Is it a family name?

It's my Grandad's name. He means a lot to me, he taught me how to read, and write my name I spent a lot of time with him and my Nan as a child (my Dad was a single dad working full time) Sadly he now has early stages of Alzheimer's and I would like to name my baby (if we have a boy) after him. His Name is Lionel Clement, i like Lionel but wouldn't want the baby to be picked on/teased so might just use it as a middle name.

I don't mind it but it takes a bit long to say.. But I'm a reaaaaally slack Aussie! Haha! I always imagine yelling out the child's name and if it takes too long to say I usually cross it off my list! But apart from that it's a nice name

I do this too - I usually say it as if I'm yelling out to them in a yard, yelling because they've been naughty, and saying their name normally lol. If it fails that test then I won't use it!

I voted as a middle name. Not keen on it as a first name. I used to call my old car Lionel.

I voted No. It doesn't feel like it rolls off the tongue easily. What nicknames are there for Lionel? What about Leon?

I actually think it's quite nice, it's a strong masculine name and if it has meaning to you then i don't see any harm in using it.
i can't think of any horrid kids nicknames associated with it but kids will be kids and they will find something with any name if they want to.

If it has a special meaning then your son would be proud to have it as his name IMO

I really like it. I think it totally suits modern boy name trends and no way would he be picked on. I think it's really easy to say and I can totally imagine calling for "Liiiie-nool" in the playground

I LOVE the family meaning you have too and I'd totally use it.

TBH I'm surprised by the number of no votes- I would have thought it would be fairly liked... But the fact that it's not means it'll be less common and heaps cooler, so all the better

    PS. Lionel Richie is cool

I don't mind it but it reminds me of a very popular Melbourne OB whose nickname is vaginal Lionel (he's pro-vaginal birth).

I think it's lovely to keep names in the family, whether as first or second names.

I said yes as a middle name.
I don't particularily like the name, I think of Lionel Richie also but with the family background it would be special used as a middle name.
