Garfield - yep that's my Dad's name. Too weird for a middle name?

    Hi

If our bub is a boy we'd really like to use my Dad's name as a middle name but it's just so unusual. Do you think it's too weird?

Our boys names on the list so far are:

    Aidan
    Christian
    Noah

    Please be honest!

I don't think it is weird at all. I don't really like it for a first name but as a middle name I think it's fine. I heard lots of different middle names because in lots of families it is traditional to use the mum's maiden name as a middle name and there are some odd last names out there. Garfield is relatively tame compared to some that I have heard so go ahead and use it. If you like it, don't worry about what anyone else thinks

Thanks Just Me. I tend to agree too. It's about honouring my father and stuff what people think.

Well we've got plenty of time to decide!

It is a little weird, but if you're worried about teasing, children will always find something to tease about, so I don't think it's an issue for a middle name.

I would use it to honour your dad and stuff what anyone else thinks.

Agree. I have heard much weirder names people use. I like the sentiment behind middle names, I don't think it really matters what the name is IYKWIM

I would go for it! It has a lovely meaning of honour for your dad

The one thing i have learnt about the choice of baby names is you will always find someone who doesn't like what you have picked but as long as you and your DH like the name that is all that matters.

And your father will be honoured

I think it's a great name, very strong, and I think you should go for it.

Thanks everyone. I think we'll go with it (if we have a boy).

If you really didn't like the name, you could always find a derivative that is similar and use that (like Garth or Gary, for eg). Or find a name with a similar meaning (like something to do with a field or battlefield - there are plenty of old English names in this vein). Or use your father's middle name.

But if you and DH are happy with it, then use it.

I would have to say " Aiden Garfield surname " sounds fantastic

... what a beautiful precious gift to your Dad

(My DP's only middle name is after his Dad so therefore we gave our DD's middle name with the same intial being that she was a girl and it was a male name !!)
