What do you think of this girl's name?

I really like the name Matthea. (mah-TEY-ah)
I think it's unique without being too weird, fits well with our other girls, and has a nice meaning - Gift of God, (feminine form of Matthew).
DH isn't liking it. I'm hoping that he'll come around....

I like it How do you feel about the nickname Matty? If I used the name I'd try to encourage tay-ah as the nickname.

    I love it!
You could always just use Tay as a nickname.

    It's really nice!!

Yes, the nickname would definitely have to be Thea/Taya. Not Matty. Sorry to any Matty's out there!

I love the name but not the spelling. I think it's a bit masculine?

I love it but would leave the spelling as it is. Mattea looks to me like it should sound Matt--ee--ah

I love it, very pretty . I love the boys version which is Matteo. I would definitely spell it differently to Matthea though, people with almost certainly pronounce it MA THEE YAH so i would take the "H" MAHTEYAH, MATAYAH, MARTAYAH, MATTEAH, MATAYA, MAHTAYA and so on

i love the way it sounds but reading it i'd say Math-ee-ah but that may be just me i'm terrible at pronunciation

I love it, it's different without being too out there. Personally I would leave the spelling exactly as is, as it's more traditional, but that's just me. I don't really go for spelling variations of any kind. I don't think pronunciation would be a problem, and Thea is gorgeous.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I think I'll keep suggesting it to DH, and see if he'll warm up to it. I really like it!

I really like it, but I would be spelling it Mataya or Mataiya to ensure that it is not mispronounced - Mat -ee-ya - iykwim?

I'm another one who likes the sound but not the traditional spelling. First read it as Ma-thee-a. Not sure which alternative spelling I'd go with though.
