Is it wrong to use an islamic name if your not muslim?
There is a name that I like and thought about changing the spelling on, so I googled it and turns out the spelling I like is a legitimate muslim name with a meaning of its own, and a nice meaning.
Do you think its inappropriate to use a name that is associated culturaly or religiously different from you?
I don't see why not really - many names are biblical names, Matthew Mark Luke John James etc but people use them if they don't believe in God so I don't see why not. If it's a name you like go for it!
names dont really have a religion, do they? It's more likely that it's an arabic name, which it's perfectly legitimate to use even if your not arabic or an arabic speaker. My name is of Tasmanian Aboriginal origin!
im Muslim, and i think its fine. Its probably not a Muslim name but an arabic name used by muslims. As most muslims have Arabic names as the Quran is in Arabic and therefore they derive the names from the Quran. Go ahead.
The name is probably of Arabic/Hebrew origin. Many Arabic names are also shared by people of Jewish and Christian descent because of the origin of these religions in the middle east and their associated languages- Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic etc.
I also love some Arabic names and have quite a few on my favorites list- there are some very beautiful ones that are still considered unique to western culture.
So yeah- go for it!
I agree with all
The names arent religious they are of the arabic language
A bit of a historical fact is The Islamic Prophet Mohamad(the most common muslim name) is an arabic name not a muslim name,Mohamad who was born with an arabic name became muslim...
Im of arab descent but my family is christian with common arabic names used in both religions such as yusuf,Abudllah and so on
Very curious though what is the name that you like??
