My grandfathers name is Wilfred! DS was named after his other grandfather, lol. Other names we liked for DS were Maxwell, Oliver, Darcy, Lachlan and Elijah.
I like Leo, but Leonard makes me think of Big Bang theory "my name has nerd in it!

Whenever I hear Leonard, i always think of Virginia Woolf's husband who pretty much drove her bats.
It's a "No" from me sorry.
I wouldn't ever be able to use Alfie cause my ILs dog is called Alfie
I do like Theodore and Lenard, but that's cause of Big Bang Theory :p
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - even though I should be cleaning ;)
Mortimor
I just found a relly born in 1915 was given a middle name of Anzac. Called him Zac. I think that's kind of cool.
How about Marmaduke?
What's the names of those two old guys on the Muppet Show? The ones on the balcony.
Marmaduke was my next suggestion!
Just googled - Statler & Waldorf
Lionel
Selwyn
Beauchamp
Albert (Bertie)
Herbert (Bertie or Herbie)
Frederick
ETA - forgot my Grandfather's middle name...... Spurgeon :o
In my family tree I have Horatio, Bartholomew) and Darwin (middle name Cicero!)
Doesn't anyone remember the book 'Clifford the big red dog' :)
I like Alfred.... My granddad was Alfred Ambrose :) and I know 3 kids named alfie.
Maxwell - well, what can I say!
Do love Theodore too but not too sure about the rhyming thing.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - I wonder what the kids are up to....Better go!
I think you need a name that can't be mistaken as a surname. Otherwise everyone will think his first name is your surname IYKWIM.
Frank actually breaks the scrabble rule I realised.
Fred is totally cool.
Charlie?
Montmorency (Monty). Dog name/surname issues?
I think Oscar is pretty popular.
Oh wow, there are so many awesome names here if we ever have another boy!
No one has suggested Bosley....
Humphrey? Loving it.
I love that Albert has come up twice. Last week I dreamed that DD had a brother called Albert, although he wasn't my child. Just not sure if I can pull it off with our surname.
Murdoch was the bad guy in Macgyver. Hey, what about Macgyver? Pretty sure DH couldn't say no to that.
I also think I could sneak Frank through, apart from the Scrabble Board Rule. Unfortunately though, Frank is the name of a family friend of the ILs, and it was Frank who inadvertently caused the great punch-on of Jan 2011. He's a chain smoking disgusting old pervert and I refused to let him touch my 6 week old (by tucking her away in the sling for his entire visit)
I second meow on the no surnames thing. We both loved the name Fletcher, but it had to go.
DH likes Leonard. I'll keep working it. It took us aaaaages with DD, so good to allow plenty of time!
What about Leon?
Fletcher is a family member's dog's name
I think Albert or Alfred with your surname would sound nice. That kind of alliteration works.
You then need an interesting middle name, like Bradman. Does the no surname rule apply to middle names?
Albert Bradman ASurname
Alfred Darwin ASurname
Albert Ernest Asurname
Alfred Clive Asurname
Leonard Lloyd Asurname
I think Darwin Cicero is very cool. Obviously, he had expectations to live up to though.
My sentence structure isnt improving.
Or Jethro.
I love Jethro.
Oooh Jethro!
(I'm another who's stealing Rafferty though)
I heard a woman calling out 'death row, death row' in the park last week. I eventually realised that she was saying 'Jethro'. Oops.
Some old family names of mine:
Amos - you can't use Audax, fails two of the 'tests'.
Gilbert
Edwin
Hunter- I can't do this one, I think you know why!
Leo- My great-grandfather and grandfather's middle name. I love it, DH doesn't.
James
William
Edward
Herbert (Herb). Kind of cute, I think.
Ernest
Ray
The maiden name as middle name is very cool. Very old school. My maiden name is long and unpronounceable, so I cant do it.
Would Augustus Caesar Asurname be too much? I've always loved Cesare, but that got vetoed
I'm liking Lloyd today. I looked up popular names in the 1930s to get that one.
Is Cadel an option?
If you can't use Frank, is Francis possible? Then you just call him Frank.
Abner?
I looooooooove Amos. Someone else please use it. And Gilbert. Hmmmmm. I kind of like it, and given time, might work.
Cadel is not an option. If I were naming baby after a cyclist, it would be Robbie McEwen  My maiden name gets misspelt from time to time, but it's pretty useable. Think frontman of Midnight Oil turned politician...
Augustus is way too much. Imagine if he had a lisp! I have always loved August though. So many gorgeous A names! Whyyyyyy?
Imagine Ausgustus Caesar with a lisp.... Good call. Poor little blighter. It broke the ends in S rule anyway.
I shall think away. This is helping me not do filing :)
Maiden name as first name? Or too confusing?
Gilbert reminds me of Anne of Green Gables
Just thought of another one : Clyde
Bbl
I love August too. But we can't have another A name - we already have 2 A's in our family. I agree, there are lots of awesome A names- for boys and girls.
Tashy, I always thought Gilbert from the movie version of Anne of Green Gables was kinda cute ;)
Audax, I think your maiden name would be an awesome middle name.
Yes, filing is laaaame. Baby names are coooool.
I am truly going stir-crazy.
While we're on Gilbert, I love Sullivan. I can't use it (surname rule) but somebody else can...
I love Arlo too. It was the other shortlisted name for DS1 along with the name we eventually chose (m i l o) and we were still undecided for a little while after he was born.
I really love Austin. Julian is pretty cool too.
How about Timothy?? I LOVE it. I have a cousin with that name and I always think of it as being sort of popular but actually he's the only Tim I know :D
I wouldn't go Theodore, because (a) too similar to Eleanor; and (b) Eleanor and Theodore are the two youngest chipmunks. Don't go there.
Cliff is ok, Alfie just makes me think of the Jude Law remake of the movie.
Archie and Archer I've seen a lot around lately ... not sure ...
I like Leonard, but also think it's too close to Eleanor.
What about Algernon? I mean really, what can do wrong there?
For other older names, I quite like Harrold, Maxwell, Edmond, Oliver and Terrance.
:)
My grandad was Percy. We also have Turley as a family name.
Perry is another one. Bartholemew another.
My great uncle was Hew Struan...
Another one I really like is Mac or Mack.
I like Oliver too!
Just found a fabulous name whilst researching family tree. Not my tree, sadly :)
Leonard Hercules Augustine Frederick Marmaduke
Now there's a name with ambition!
Humphrey... is he still a bear? Or is this a name just desperate for restoration?
And Fred... short for Alfred, or Frederick? I think we could pull off Alfred (which we both like) if shortened to Fred.
Woohoo! Old names again.
Humphrey is a great name, as in Sir Humphrey.. May get shortened to humpty dumpty though.
I think Alfred would be lovely. You could call him Fred or Alfie.
Is Leonard still a favourite?
How do you feel about Aristotle?
Aristotle. I have always loved that name. But it's reserved for the day I own a pet axolotl. Aristotle the Axolotl.
Leonard has dropped in popularity. Theodore has risen. Ran it by my mum and sister the other day, they don't think the rhymeyness of it all matters.
Barnaby, Llewellyn, Finbar, Dougall and Percy are all on the list now too.
I'm sorry if I've suggested this before, but I love the name Livingstone. It was my grandfathers middle name :)
