Finding it hard to pick a BOYS name

    Hi All

Well DH and I have agreed on a girls name and that was pretty simple. But I am really struggling to find a boys name that we can agree on.

My DS is Isaac and 2 DSS are Jacob and Jeremiah (very biblical I know), my DH likes Luke for a boy however I have a friend who I see weekly for play dates with a son named Luke so I feel a little bit funny about using the name. I like Tayleb but this seems to be a bit out there for DH. My Mum has also suggested Aaron but DH seems to be set on Luke.

So my question is do you think it is ok to use the name of a friends child?? (I have asked her and she said she doesn't mind, but really i can't see her saying "NO, I have exclusive rights to that name" LOL). Or another option is to go with Lukas (german spelling) and we can shorten it when we choose to, that way it's a similar yet different name?

    Please help

It's tricky isn't it! If you like the name then I don't think it matters if you know someone else with the name. But I think it's good if both parents are happy with the name, so perhaps keep it in mind but also keep looking? But if you both like it, then there you go!

I found a website called Nymbler pretty helpful for finding names similar to ones I already liked.

Luke is a nice name. Pesonally though, I prefer Lukas. It just seems more finished?? Maybe because it has two syllables? What goes better with your last name?

I think if you like it and you are happy to use it then why not. I probably wouldn't but that is just me.

    Lucas is also really nice.
    There is always Luca?

I prefer Lukas to Luke and that way you can choose to use Luke as a nn if you want to.

I don't think there is anything wrong with naming your child the same as a friend's child. If you both like the name and its the only name you can agree on, I say got for it!

It's hard cause if you like a name, you like a name, whether someone else has that name or not.
There are many names that we like and hubby wanted but i knew people that had those names, so I refuse to have them too. Same as I used to teach dancing and I refuse to have the name of any child I have ever taught (which narrows it down alot), but I just feel funny using names that I can associate with someone else. Hubby doesn't see it as a problem, but I just don't like it.
I was gonna suggest Lucas too as an option which I love. Although, if you really really like Luke, and have your heart set on it, and your friend doesn't mind, well then it won't matter. As long as you're happy with the name.

    Thanks everyone,

I had a chat to DH and at this point i think Lukas is on top of our boy list YAY!! i do like Luke but feel a bit funny using the exact same name. DH doesn't really see the big deal but is willing to be flexible

Petalpetal also mentioned that Lukas is a bit longer and I think for that reason it goes better with the middle name (DH's name). So at the moment we are thinking Lukas Carl ......, I think that has a nice flow.

How exciting we have our names picked!!! Girls name is Sophie Patricia ..... (middle name after my grandmother).

    Thanks Again.
