I don't think Finn is too popular. It's probably gained a bit more popularity in recent years, but not so much that there will be 5 other Finns in his class at school.
It's a great name, I really like it.
Finn
I like it, want to use it, think it suits my other children's names nicely.
BUT I hate the idea of it being a popular name. There is a thread floating around with peoples top names & I am sure Finn appears on every single page in at least 2 replies.
I would hate for him to go to school in 5 years time with a herd of other boys called Finn...
How safe do you think it is to use it?
Its the only name both DH & I agree on.

I dont think so. I have never met a Finn. I think it fits nicely with the names of your other children too. Good luck hun. I think it is perfect.
You could use it as a nickname for Finnian or Finlay.
It isn't common on adults, but it is common in this generation.
I would think Fin-ee-un, if that makes sense. That's just my guess.
I don;t think it is very popular FJ. I know a Flynn but not a finn.
I would say finn-ee-an.
Ehat are you still doing preg anyway???? Come on out little man!
Fj i dont think it matters.
Finn is lovely!
When we decided on Ethan - every 2nd child i met from that point seemed to be called Ethan!!!
I think it is fairly popular.
Having said that, it's not like every other kid will have that name, KWIM? I think it's safe for you to use.
There were 5 Amys (of varying spellings) in my year at school. Never bothered me... (One of them is still my best mate)
FJ, did you check the BDM website for the most common names for the last 10 years? It has the top 100 names on there. What I always did was make sure I read all the local birth announcements to see what they were all calling their bubs LOL and then made sure we didn't use it.
BIL really wanted Finlay as his son's name but his wife put her foot down....Nephews name is Oliver or Ollie as they call him.
I think Finn is a rather grand name for the young chap![]()
Hi There,
I too did not want a name that was too popular but I fell in love with the name Matilda so no matter how popular it is becoming I named my DD Matilda!
Anyway, if you google the birth deaths and marriages website for your state you can see the top 10 - 100 names for boy/girl and even pick a year or decade, Finn is in the top 100 for the year 2007 (103 in NSW), but near the bottom. Just thought that this may be of interest to you.
I personally think Finn is a great name and if you like it go for it!
Deanne.
Yeha I have checked & its on the top 100 last year. None of my other kids are on the top 100. So I kinda like that. Thats whats bothering me most...
Yeah my DD is number 19 for 2007, it does bother me, I hate that it is so popular, but I do love the name and it suits her soooo much. To me I think at least it isn't a Jessica or Emily, no offence to these names, but to me these are normal, everyday names. But I also know what you mean by not wanting to be part of the so called 'trend of today'.
At the end of the day, it is a great name and if you like it and it goes with your other childrens names (which can be really hard) then go for it. I personally don't think that it is that popular that it will cause you too many problems![]()
wonder were my kids are on that list....going to go check now
I went and checked also out of curiosity!!!
DH is not on list for his year but all 4 of his best mates are!!!
