Unusual / Uncommon Baby names - help me create a list!

unaru (a-na ru) andrew in maori
wiramu ( wi-ra-mu) william in maori

thats about all i have hoping the next one is a girl so i dont have to find another boys name

I love maori names.
I know a Tahi & Unaru. But my friend spells it Anaru.

I always LOVED the name Avalon and I was so sure I would have an Avalon Rose for my daughter. But then everyone who I said it to said it reminded them of the airport . And DH said it reminds him of the Toyota. I still love it though!

Well, i have decided to join this thread because you guys have some amazing names!! And we need all the help we can get haha!!

I have just fallen in love with Dusk for a girl and Finlay for a boy, i don't think DF will be as keen though. He's more into traditional "strong" names. We have Jackson lined up for a boy and Sianna/Sienna for girl, although neither of them are set in stone yet because we now we'll change our minds a 100 times by the time bub gets here!

Rua is also the number 'two' so could be well suited to a 2nd child. btw-(Tahi means the number one).
Hari as far as I know is not a colour - its meaning can be used as 'happy' though 'Koa' would be more appropriate. The use of Hari as happy would be in the context of 'happy birthday or happy anniversary'. Hari is a verb used in the meaning of taking/carrying something.
There is no 'y' in the maori alphabet, so the word/name Typihi would be spelt Taipihi. Which the meaning of would probably translate as 'Seagrass'.

I`m not saying you cant say, spell or pronounce a name anyway you want, but just want to help bring more understanding if those mentioned above were to be considered as Maori names.

The Maori names here I listed are just ones I've heard. It was a baby name website that had those meanings. Thanks for straightening it out
My SIL's uncle was Taipihi, but I've got no idea how it was spelt. Just that it was shortened to Pihi for my neices middle name.

I also know an Atu & I think its Ruki, but not sure.

I was deadset on Kiah or Zekiah for a boy (but if you look up Kiah it is traditionally an african girls name ).

Really interesting thread and names. DS is nearly five and we ended up calling him Benicio. We couldn't pick a boys name and I became completely enamoured with the actor Benicio Del Toro while pregnant. In the end it was the only name we both agreed on.

Some people find it a little difficult to pronounce at first but it sure does stand out and if he doesn't like such a fancy name as he gets older, he can always use Ben. At the moment though he's not budging from Benicio and tells everyone that Ben is not his name.
