DD just laid out her backpack next to DS and asked me to put him in so she could carry him. (I have been carrying him on my back in the Ergo lately). SO cute.

Heh, love it!
I just bought a friend's 4 year old a child's angelpack for his birthday - he loves her Beco and is always telling her they should use the carrier, not the pram. He also loves being asked to be demo-kid for big kid carries at our local meets.
Ck, have you got your northern lights yet? I've got one coming too and I cannot wait!
Oh, and my Obi, am so in love.

Hi :)
I'm down in tas and a pretty avid babywearer :)
I run the local sling group. (We have a website here:
http://www.launcestonbabywearers.webs.com/)
My stash is dwindling now and I mostly use my obimama or beetlebum the rest of its more for meets. But I only have one wrap right now so I think some shopping is in order.
I wasnt a fan of the oscha i tried just cos I found them grippy stiff scratchy and hard to break in. I like my wraps soft cushy and a bit of bounce. I had a pink one on white linen (kimino?)
I love mei tais and wrap conversions though....

You're in Perth still aren't you? If so, Perth Babywearers on fb. We're having a meet at Alexander Library from around 9.30-10am ish till whenever on the Mezzanine Level (called "The Place" on Thursday next week (26th), you'd be more than welcome to come and play with us!
I got my stunningly gorgeous new wrap day before yesterday, got to play with it yesterday after it'd had a wash :) I love it, my very first rainbow (Girasol Northern Lights) and it is so comfy already, and will only get better - can you tell I'm a tad excited?
Here's a pic! https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...5&d=1342743468
On the subject of Oschas - as much as I love Shui Long, I'm over the hype. So I'm refraining from the pre-order and lusting after a simply gorgeous black and gold silk blend didy instead.
Very pretty ck! Just requested an invite to the group.

i'm over oschas! I've owned 3 and didn't think much of them to wrap with. beautiful though!
What do all of you use for bags when wearing? I've been using my normal handbag but it kills after a little while. I've seen a few on bags on the Internet and I've also seen patterns for them, but I don't sow. I'm not overly desperate right now, but we are going to Thailand at the end of the year and I want something soft that I can fit the basics in that won't hurt or keep falling off.

granny shopping trolley if I have much more than my purse etc.
I've got a bag I made that goes across my body. Looking at making a boho mamma bag soon

Good idea about a granny trolly. Don't know how that would go walking through jungle though ;)
Bellany, you're lucky you can sow!

you could prob get something to fit, or made up, in thailand!
i like the one long strap worn diagnally. my current bag is from cambodia, long strap, quite soft (no structured) so can go over baby or across my chest below baby s face.
I cheated and bought a slingyroo bag - I love it. And not just because it's made from Northern Lights so it matches my wrap - it also fits a surprising amount of crap and is really comfy to wear. The strap is long enough to go across my body under Alex's butt and can be adjusted to the length I want via the sling rings on the end.
I use a bum bag if I go walking, I bought one of those traveling ones with extra secure straps. Otherwise, a backpack is my nappy bag and I put my purse in that. Or if I'm not taking more than phone and keys, pockets or stuffed in the front of a double hammock wrap.
i just carry my purse and have keys n phone in my pocket. my handbag tho has a long strap that i can put over a shoulder and across my chest under bub, but only done that once. my nappy bag is just a cheap backpack too so easy as i am only front carring atm
can you buy half buckles anywhere? the only ones ive seen are WC that are custom and expensive and seem impossible to get...
Manduca or beco gemini...decisions decisions...although someone said on fb that the beco isn't as supportive as some others for the spine?
Noone say get both...finances barely syretch to one at the moment
Now i'm looking at the tula carriers as well. Argh!

i got a recent ergo, then had to send it back and got a new one. also got an old style ergo (maybe 5 years old) and it is amazing how different they feel. the older way has a shorter waist band but feel so comfy. the new one not so much. has anybody else found this?
i also found difference in feel between the 2 'new' ones i had. not sure if they wear in or if slight diffs in manufacture make a big difference.
My Ergo has a little pocket but Im thinking about getting the backpack that can attach to it.
question..I LOVE my ergo but am really interested in a sling as well. Any recommendations?
I have the ergo backpack, it's useful for front carries and hanging from the pram for a long trip, but I found it a bit tricky to use in a back carry as I didn't like having bag and bub on the same side - Alex is boof enough as it is without adding weight. Has heaps of handy pockets and stashy spots though, so hanging onto it, might see how it goes with a wrap one of these days.
As for getting a sling as well - what sort of sling would you be looking at? Are we talking ring sling, woven wrap, other?
I dont know much about slings so please share your knowledge! I had a hotsling with DD1 and really disliked it. I like the idea of a ringsling...and whats a woven?
Woven wraps are the really long pieces of woven fabric that you tie around yourself and bub - makes them really flexible as you can do front, back and hip carries with them depending on the way you tie them, and different fabrics have different properties as well.
Ring slings are pretty cool too, I love mine for quick trips into the shops and such as it's usually easier than mucking about with the pram. As far as recommendations go, with you being in the States I'd suggest having a look at Paxbaby. Heaps of info and articles, plus loads of pretty things to lust after :)
CK ~ just checked out Paxbaby, awesome site!
HotI, you are so right about the ergos! My one is close to five years old and I tried a friends new one the other day and it doesn't feel nearly as good.
Anyone have vatanai experience? Im thinking of getting one for our trip to Thailand as they are known to be light weight. I only want to do single layer carries with it though, so 4m in length at the most. Would it hold up well enough?

Had a pretty wrap I'm borrowing admired today. And yes, I colour coordinated so we matched! ;)
I'm using ruck back carry a bit more. Great for quick trips. I find myself mostly back carrying. I think it's also time I tried the no sew ring sling so I've washed and will iron my Oscha sz 2 for an attempt tomorrow.
I love my Oscha. It has taken some breaking in, but it is super supportive and versatile. :p
I mainly ruck as that's the carry I find easiest.. When I do a DH I can't seem to get the front snug enough.. It's always loose and annoying so I don't do it..
BAL, I find it really hard to get a good DH with some wraps. Something thin and slidey is better.
Not to mention a cooperative baby that stays nice and still while you get it right! Lol
I must get DP to take some video of her face while I'm wrapping her.
Alex is starting to co-operate a bit more now when wrapping. But we still mostly ruck as I'm impatient and want to get on my way sooner rather than later.
Oh and my husband is awesome. It was our second anniversary today and he got me a gorgeous Girasol Aurora :)
Happy anniversary CK. What an awesome pressie (and awesome hubby too :)).
To get the chest pass tight in DH check out BabywearingFaith on you tube. She does the 'L-pull' which works really really well.
I'll check that out, TC.
Your DH really wanted to make you happy, CK!
Here is my second effort at no sew RS. First I got hopelessly wrong!
That is so pretty jennifer!

aww Jen what a cutie!
i just pulled my RS out for a quick pop to the supermarket and DD was asleep, she kept resting her head on the rings =( i kept moving her and them out of the way and readjusting but when she skirmed she kept banging them. any ideas on how to avoid this? can you get little pillow things to cover them?

Oooh, very nice! We should catch up sometime, be all matchy matchy ;)
T, what carry have you got her in with the rs? Tummy to tummy or cradle?
