hm, maybe you need to have the rings higher on your shoulder before you put her in and adjust?
There's maddimoo in perth who's just started up doing conversions - not sure if she does HBs, though, but MTs. her work looks very good. her slots are filling up very fast, though. huge market potential for any sewers out there...
I had a beetlebums HB which i sold. extremely comfortable, though the buckle waist didn't quite fit me - bit big. i prefer a tie waist on a MT. I sold it because it was too structured for DD's hips - pushed her legs out too much.
There's really just too much choice - you could spend years trying to figure out the perfect carrier for you. I'm coming to the conclusion that maybe there isn't a perfect one...
Hmmm, I'd typically angle DS a teeny bit so his head would naturally fall to my other shoulder when he fell asleep and make sure the sling is nice and firm.
I love my Girasols - I have Northern Lights and Aurora, and they are so so so so comfy.
I like the idea on the HB about having padded waist, all the MT i have seen dont seem as padded...or are there ones that have a nice big padded waist??
Yea i tried getting her head to fall the other side, but she just kept flopping back... was the first time she had done it, so maybe was just in the wrong spot that time, as ive never heard of it being a problem for ppl.
I really think i'll get a girasol...no one has said anything bad about them yet!
i didn't like mine. Had a shorty a while back. I don't think they're bad wraps, though.
yep, the waists vary. usually less padding, but some have some, some have none. it varies.
what didnt you like about it?
my only woven i have is an elliville jade....if you know what they feel like can you compare?
i am hoping to feel one in a week or so though =)
I'm not certain about the jades, as I've not owned one. Maybe thin-medium thickness, somewhat stretchy and fairly grippy. (By stretchy, I mean a bit of bouncy-give, rather than sitting solid and unmoving, and by grippy I mean as opposed to being slidey or slippy).
IT's ok as a shortie - though I found it not quite supportive enough, I think I prefer something with less 'give' in a shortie. The grippiness I don't like in a long wrap. I'm a bit fussy. I've tried too many wraps now!
This probably makes no sense to you at all! I remember reading stuff like this about 9 months ago and thinking WTF are they on about and do they not realise it's just a bit of cloth?!
I think they're a good wrap, actually, based on views of many, many others.
I prefer a gira to a jade. It's a grippiness thing for me too, although I'm not much of a wrapper these days!
Got a RS today! Love it, so easy over the bump, glad I did it. My last RS-owning experience was a Breeze, and I thought I hated RSs, but tried a friends Sweet Pea Sling, and thought I should give it another go.
My first RS was a breeze too, boy was that a mistake! I can see how they'd work for in the water or with a smallish bub if you knew what you were doing but at the time I wasn't confident with one and my boy is a bit of a boof. I have a gira RS now that I adore, it's so easy to use and cushy :)
I'm thinking about fish. Now that I've sold my Melody, I'm contemplating something for a summer ruck wrap...
fish are my favourite critters
I mentioned nebbia, right? If you can get it the right length to do ruck or dh, it's perfect. It's great for either carry and very supportive.
Mad, because I'm fairly new to wovens, what would you suggest I try for a warm weather wrap, mainly back carry. Ds is just under 8kg now so I'm guessing we will be around 10 when summer comes.

Loulabelle - Jim Salvia is the best wrap, it's thin, suitable for warmer weather .. Some people complain that it's diggy, but I don't find that at all.. I haven't tried many other wraps though to compare..
I did THE BEST DH wrap job today! I've had trouble getting the hang of it, I can't seem to get the chest bit tight enough, but today was awesome! I did it in from of a mirror though, in the baby change room, so I cheated a bit lol
ETA: I'll check that out TC.. thanks :)
Thanks, bal. I'll look into than one. :)

well nebbia, or ellevill karma for a versatile wrap.
otherwise it depends whether you want to do single or multi-layer carries? The vatanai jacquards are good value and pretty comfy in multilayers. maybe ok in single, too, depending on the wrap.
In liking the look of both of them! I've only used long wraps. I'm wanting it mainly for single layer, would a 3,7m be enough?

I will admit I'm being sorely tempted by both a nebbia and a caribe - but they're both 6's and I'm not sure I'm keen on buying one only to chop it down to a shorter size. Though that said, I've seen some people do some pretty funky things with the leftovers. Argh, decisions!
I'm also probably not thinking all that clearly at the moment, Alex is teething so we've had a bit of a rough week :(
I'm not a Gira fan either, but i've only tried one. Too thick for my liking, as in not slippy enough for tying. MadB - the Jade is thinner but has similar wrapping qualities to the Karma. I do love all the Ellevills I've tried though.
T - try putting some of the fabric that's hanging down over the rings to cushion. That's what I do. DD2 likes to suck on them here.
I think I may have found my ISO (Natibaby Crimson Silk Linden). Soooo excited! Offloading a sz 4 Didy to make room for it.
I think my Diva Milano is my favourite to wrap with.
What didy are you offloading Jen? Or I'd it already sold?

has anybody got/used a carrier from two mommas designs? I'm thinking of getting a HB through them (not a WC) just as a cheaper option for now until I get an expensive wc custom (in a few years...if then)
Thanks Jen - that is a good idea
nope. maybe ask on fb?
Oooo, what are you maybe offloading? *skark skark*
So Im getting ready to invest in a didymos Lena..thoughts? Anyone use didymos in here?
Sure, there are gazillions of Didymos designs :) Not familiar with Lena
Do you like didymos?
I've owned a few, sure. They're all so different it's not possible to say categorically that I like didymos. I mean, I've liked the ones I've had to greater or lesser extent.
Oh wel hopefully it is a good one! All I know is that it is a size 5 Didymos Lena woven wrap. its very pretty. Purples, greens, and creams :)
well, pretty is good :) That's often the most important thing. Sometimes you just have to give it a go and see
I got DD on my back for the first time today =) we tried a ruck (and I finally understand why people want shorter carriers) and a double hammock. She cried through out though, unless I was actually walking (rather than just moving, I had to be walking) she will get use to it thought right, I figure if i just keep at it and do it for a little bit of time each day etc.. she will get to know it and feel safe etc. I'm think I did pretty good jobs of it. I did take photos...they are in my baby wearing album
https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...4&d=1343631927 <-- the ruck
https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...3&d=1343631912 <-- DH (please excuse the muffin top =P)
well done! The pics are a bit hard to see, but it looks good. How does it feel? You definitely need a shorter wrap for a ruck. You might find that as you get better at wrapping that you can do both carries in a 4... (so long as the wrap is fairly thin).
Sometimes they do hate the actual wrapping part, but are fine once you're moving. My DD is like that.
Soemtimes they hate being wrapped. It depends on them, you know?
Woohoo T! 4 is probably my ideal size as I can just DH in it but it's not too long for some of the shorter carries like ruck and whatever the front version of the same is called.
How are you getting her up, T? Maybe she's complaining about getting there and the wrapping itself?
Mrs S pretty is good! I have two Didys atm, one is Eisblau, which is a silk, cotton blend, and one is the butterfly one, which is 100% cotton. Both are quite light, thin to wrap with. I had another Didy cotton that wasn't quite as thin, but somewhat softer to wear. It just depends on the wrap, how broken in it is and the fabric. Cotton can also grip differently from wrap to wrap. Looking forward to photos!
I am impatiently waiting for my Natibaby to arrive. I hope it's as good to wear as it looks!
madb ~ yea, FX she does get use to it, I think once she is up and we get moving she will be fine, which makes me think she will get use to it. I did find my 6 too long for the ruck, as a result it felt weird over the shoulders cause of too much material I think.
Jen ~ I can get her up under my arm with someone helping me, or i can get her over my shoulder by myself. it could be getting her up there, I think she is just unsure atm what I'm doing =P
Carrier look good TT. I've been really struggling with getting ds on my back as he wiggles so much and even tries to roll off my back sometimes.
I'm loving the feel of the Gira once on and I love the way it looks but I'm feeling like its just too much fabric. Im trying to decide if I should chop it, sell it and buy a shorter one or convert it. Leaning towards conversions as I'm in love with my Obi mt ,but its a short stage 1 featherweight so will probably only get another 6 months out of it. Decisions, decisions.

Yay, it's here!!
Totally in love with the colours. Feels good so far, but I'll give it a proper long wear another day.
Absolutely stunning, Jen!

Waaaahhhhhh, I want a proper wrap, and a babyhawk, and... I just want everything I don't and can't have
I'd also love to find my Mei Tai, I used it for about a week before it went missing :(

Lol, teni! I could spend hours online looking at things I can't have!
Though, I'm getting my gira converted! I'm so excited! It's going to look and feel beautiful. Now to sell my Obi to pay for it. Not so happy about that though!
Pretty wrap Jennifer!
Hi ladies, haven't been here in a while. Finally mastered a ruck with my Zara (thanks again Sterla!) and have been taking DD everywhere on my back.
She. Loves. It!
We got so many compliments at the shops today, lots of people stopped to ask about wrapping and commented on how comfy DD looked.
Am keen to try with something thinner and shorter next - have my eye on an EllaRoo. Plus Babyhawk mei tai is due to arrive in a few days.
I blame you (happily) for my new addiction!
yay for wonderful enablers
