you could try contacting babes in arms on fb, too. they're pretty good about answering questions I think. (is it them? or someone else?) anyway, I'm very confident you'll sort this out with a few pointers - 6.5kg is nothing in an ergo. (and I'll admit i'm not a huge fan of the carrier)
Why, may I ask?:
TBH it isn't really working out for DS2 ATM either...
it worked ok for us on the front, but on the back I just couldn't get it snug enough to be comfy. it carries quite low, so DD would swing out to the side to see stuff - which meant it pulled on my back even more, and this was exacerbated by the short body of the ergo (so easier to lean out and away from me). The only other full-buckle soft structured carrier I've tried is an olive&applesauce, and that was much better - carried higher and longer body, plus would adjust down a bit more. Still not great, though.
I think sometimes you need a bit of helping jigging it just right - baby needs to be seated well to distribute the weight down on hips - maybe give some thought to where you're wearing the waist band - higher or lower - and shoulder straps need to be very snug.

Is a 7 too long for a beginner or a good length to start with??

7 is very long. How big are you?
Often it's recommended to start with longer ones, so you can try lots of different carry styles. I actually think it's better to start with a mid-length wrap and learn the rucksack carry first - it's probably the simplest carry to learn. Then get shorter or longer ones to try other carries.

You could probably manage a 7 - though you'd have long tails in a ruck. A 4 or 5 maybe? it also depends on the wrap itself, thinner or more mouldable wraps will wrap 'longer'. Can you get to a meet and try a few?
Hiya. Hoping to get some advice by posting in this thread.
My DD is currently 13.5mos old and around 11kgs.
We have been babywearing from birth although not so much recently with my lower back issues.
I own an ergo and it's done very well, however we are going away in march to Singapore for just over 2 weeks and I need an easy ssc that's not going to be hard on my back and relatively cool and breezy due to humid weather etc. the ergo is brilliant but I find it very hot to wear.
Any other suggestions for me? Looking to stick with SSCs as no good with wraps.

Not sure what's going on. Have tried tightening the straps, I'm wearing it low on my hips but still getting the back pain. Maybe it's just my weak back at the moment. I never had this issue with my dd.
Thanks Mad B. I go to the meets regularly so I'm feeling ready to give a woven wrap a go! Got happily quizzed about my aqua waves Didytai in Coles yesterday. The mum to be was off to order one after our conversation! Yay for baby wearing!

Hi! :hello: The lady who runs out local ABA meetings has lent me a woven wrap to see how I go with it. Last week I snaffled a piece of woven fabric from an opshop for about three dollars which is slightly narrower but longer than the wrap I was given which is a size six. Wondering if I can make that into a wrap..... :think:
We have been working on babywearing at home, but unfortunately I seem to pick times when Mack is starting to get pee'd off (me too actually), so it never lasts long. We've done front and back wearing, just so I can try and get things done around the house. Probably not the best time to be trying to get time in.....
And I know this is silly. I need to get a job, but daycare for Mack just doesn't exist here..... I'm trying to go for a housekeeping job at a motel (which belongs to a friend of a friend), and I just keep thinking, 'why can't I just put him on my back and do the job?!?'. My logic is that women wear their babies to all kinds of work in other countries, as well as housework here, tending to animals, etc, but for themselves. Not an employer.... I suppose all I can do is enquire.

Yeah, you *should* be able to, but most workplaces would frown on it as it isn't the done thing. In our culture, you're not really allowed to parent in the public sphere, you know :wall:
What is the fabric like? When you say it is narrower, how narrow is it? Some fabrics are not suitable for wrapping, but if it's strong enough, wide enough that you can seat them in it securely and has a bit of diagonal stretch (but not any other way) then it would probably be fine.
Walking to work and I walked past a Chinese grandma with a 7mo looking baby on her back in a very pretty mei tai style carrier. Made my morning, I love seeing grandparents baby wear! I wanted to take a sneaky picture but I think she was already weirded out by my possibly ott smiling.
I meant to bring the fabric into town with me today to take to the fabric shop and ask them what it is, but I totally forgot this morning. And, my bad, it is actually wider than the wrap. Maybe one and a half times as wide? It has a slight stretch dianonally, but that is all. And I could probably wrap him up twice in it, it seems so long.
With regard to potentially bringing him to work with me (*if* I were to get the job), I have a interview on Monday. Should I wear him to the interview? Lol, he sounds like an accessory.
I have been hunting for a Kokadi Ela or Erna for a few mths and I seem to have found Ela on a German site. Had a size six left, so I bought it (with a bit of help from Google translator and paypal). I guess now I wait and see if it worked and how long it takes to arrive! It wasn't terribly expensive for such a hard to find wrap. I so hope I get it - DD2 is not getting any smaller and I think this one will complete my stash.
Put DD2 in the pram last week to walk to school while she was finishing her morning toast - never again! The hills and lack of footpaths made it a very uncomfortable and nerve-wracking walk. Such hard work pushing her and the pram uphill. So next time someone asks me if she isn't getting too heavy, I have a ready response - much easier to wear her!
I went for a walk with Amelia in a stroller a couple of weeks ago - within a few minutes my hands were cramping and my legs hurt. That certainly doesn't happen with a wrap!:
I have to say I get heaps more smiles and "oh what a cutie" type comments when I am BW than when I'm using the pram. Gotta love that :)

she has a hemp one I have fallen in love with...and its cheap
has anyone wraped with hemp? what is it like compared to cotton and linen?

hemp is stretchy and bouncy. I've never wrapped with 100% hemp, though.
stretchy and bouncy, everything i've read say its good for toddlers and bigger kids, I thought you wouldn't want stretchy and bouncy for that?
Not as much stretch as a HB/stretchy wrap but as it breaks in it will stretch out a bit. Is it 100% hemp or hemp cotton mix?
Can't wait for my Milky Way blue sky (Hemp/cotton) have been told it will be ready in 2 weeks!
oh no, I mean compared to a cotton woven. It's not stretchy like a stretchy wrap, it only has diagonal stretch, but just more than other wraps. Try one and you'll see what I mean.
so I caught up with her today and had a play woth the hemp wrap and omg! im in love!! it feels exactly like I imagine when I think of wraps. and after a bit of a play (only had it a couple of hours) when I wrap I feel like all those pros in the how to vids. feels so natural and effortless to wrap with it =)

is anyone here wearing older kids (3 years+)? I rediscovered the benefits of wearing my DD recently when I had both kids at the airport and she was upset after saying goodbye to her dad who was going away for a few days. I had a pusher and the ergo, which I packed for DS, so DS went in the pusher and I put DD on my tummy in the ergo. initially it was just a way of getting her out of the airport with a massive meltdown, but I think it gave her the physical touch and movement .... that she needed so she could settle down.
I have done it other times since then. I think the effects are partly caused by novel factor of her being worn, rather than DS, but all the other stated benefits are also quite obvious with her.
Yesterday I did BW FTW!
I climbed a mountain with Spock on my back. I climbed The Rock. according to the sign at the bottom the grade is hard, and it was, very steep and rocky. It killed me, but I did it, and man it felt good. I feel I achieved even more because I BW her up. I also have an awesome photo of my bf her on the top. =)

Poor DD2 has chicken pox and babywearing really has gotten the job done this week. She was not happy here.
So, we're going overseas in Oct and I plan to BW DS through the airport.
I have a RS and a Girasol wrap. DS will be 14 mos.
What do you think I should use and if it's the wrap, what carry should I use? I want something quick and easy.
I'd go rucksack for a quick carry - or is it a long wrap?

You might already know but I have found have to take DD or DS out of a carrier to go through security and put carrier on belt through x-ray. So something is very easy to get on and off is my tip (I used ergo) especially if on own.
Yeah, it seems to depend on which airport you're going through :) I took a shortie my last trip so could use it in a ruck on my back or tied with a slip-knot for a hip carry like a RS
A few of the airports now have a change mat at the end of the security desk so you can put bub down while you put your carrier/wrap back on. Wonder if they would make you take the woven type wrap off your body completely? I have only used ergo, close carrier or scooterbaby and have had to take off all these to get through security. Still worth taking it though rather than use a pram.
I've recently travelled domestic only with a HAB and it had to come off completely through security. The staff were really apologetic as bubs was asleep at the time but it had to go through X-ray with the bags etc.
I've always had to take bubs out at every airport through security. Also had to take them out for take off, even when I had a tiny sleeping bubba, to use their seatbelt.
It's a long wrap and I know I'll have to take it off. But, it'll be so much easier than using the double pusher as DD won't be able to walk through the airport.
She loves getting in the ruck, so I may end up wearing her. She's such a teeny little thing. :)
