Difference between different versions of ergo

Just looking at getting an ergo. Just wanted some feedback re: the different versions, ie
- original
- performance
- sports
- organic

Not in terms of dimensions but how ppl felt abt them esp if you've tried a few kinds. Kinda sold on ergo just trying to work out which version.

The Original and Organic are the same just different cotton fabrics (the organic is often said to be softer)

The sport is lighter weight, has a back vent and was designed to accomadate taller men aswell, poly-cotton blend.

The performance is streamlined with less bulky padding and more shaping to the straps, man made fibre fabric, longer body waist and shoulder straps.

The fit is very much personal preference. (Please don't buy Ergo's from Ebay, they are vary heavily faked now and almost none on Ebay are the real thing)

I have tried all three versions, though having tried other carriers I'm not an Ergo lover.. the original is bulky and while it does the job i often found us hotter than in other carriers. The Performance either suits your frame or notso i would recomment trying one if you can, i liked it with a smaller baby, but found a back carry uncomfortable under the arms.

The Manduca carrier is sort-of like an Ergo and is becoming very popular. There’s a very active Australian babywearing buy/sell/swap page on facebook that is a great source of information and excellent second hand and often almost new carriers.

Back to basics, LOL, What features do you know you want? Quick on/off, carrying for long time for naps, ect

How old is bub?

Will you mostly front or back carry? both? do you def want buckles? is the carrier just for you or partner too?

I have an original and love it and used it lots!! I didn't like it with a newborn as found it fiddley to use with insert, but from 4 months on I used it all the time, have back carried boys even DS1 who is now 15kg without an issue (apart from I am to unco to get him) on my back myself!!)

For a new born I loved close carrier which I used from birth till 9 months before I found it to sore on neck.

Hehe. That's okay. Quick on and off preferably. Used for both. DP tall & lanky, me = short & stumpy.

DD is 4mo+. Big baby. Usually I'm fine holding but on cranky days it kills my back with her weight & my non-existence core strength. But I can see it being used for long holds.

We got an original lent to us by someone and I like it hence I thought we'd just get the ergo.

if you find the ergo is comfy for you now, maybe stick with it and you can always 'upgrade' later on if you need to.
I've used original and sport. the sport is lighter and softer.

I found it was fine when DD was little and I carried her on the front. but once I switched to back carry it was not comfy. The ergo body is shorter than some others, so not as supportive - I think that is why it can pull on your back when baby on back. especially if you're on the smaller side (as there is a limit to how much you can tighten the shoulder straps)
I'm a little below average height and size 10-ish. I found the Olives&APplesauce carrier more comfortable, but still not quite right. I actually found the ergo more comfortable with my 3.5 year old than my 9 month just because he was bigger so it adjusted better

I was researching the same question a couple of months ago. I decided to get a second hand performance because it's a bit lighter, supposedly cooler and the straps on the original just looked ridiculously bulky to me. I saw a lot of reviews of the sport where people found it a bad fit and the vent looks quite odd to me. I'm still waiting for bub to arrive so not sure if I made the right decision or not.
