Samuel is now 10 and a half months old, and weighs over 10 kg. He can walk very very well (has been for 6 weeks) but he is still so much happier when I carry him everywhere. The problem is I have a hip sling, and he is just to heavy for me, I find the strap is cutting into my neck especially when he leans over. (because although he wants to be held, he wants to see whats going on, on the floor as well)
What age / weight do most people stop baby wearing? What sling do you recommend for a toddler of Sams age and weight?
My DS is about 11kg and 17m old, I still wear him. We have a Kari-Me sling (like a Hug-a-Bub) and DS can sit on my side, my chest, my back, face in, face out... it works well. Often I carry him to the park then take him out and let him run. DH absolutely loves it and he gets grumpy if I don't let him carry DS.
It depends on you and your son which sling you use, I like wrap slings but others don't.
I'll stop baby wearing when DS can walk everywhere alone and wants to. I guess I'll stop soon after we stop the pushchair.
Both my bubs hit the 10kg mark around 10 mth and I found baby wearing in a one shoulder sling after that point hard. We got a rigid backpack with DS which was good but cumbersome. We have an Ergo with DD and I love it as it is easy to transport (scrunches up into a bag) and we can do a front carry when she's sleeping, hip carry or back carry.
She is currently 13kg and I don't even notice her weight and can easily carry her for 3-4hrs
I have a homemade meitai. You can front, hip and back carry, but i tend to only back carry now as she's so heavy. I still wear DD (27months, 14.5kg) pretty much daily (only use a buggy if i'm going for a run and then i use the babyjogger). On Saturday i carried my 4.5 year old step-niece (about 20-21kg i think) for over an hour and the only problems came from the fact that she constantly wanted me to run/jump lol.
If you PM me your email addy i can email you the meitai instructions.
