i am going back to work part time in the next few weeks. DD2 is still breastfed on demand during the day and night. she usually has stacks of milk bar type comfort feeds during the day and is pretty much attached to boob from midnight til we get out of bed in the morning!
she does have a bottle of formula before her night sleep at 6pm ish.
i am just wondering if i need to provide a bottle of formula while she is at day care? she wont be getting her little booby snacks so will water do her just fine? or does she need formula? or if they just offer her cows milk with lunch will that be enough.. (she isnt a fan of cows milk yet).
She doesn't need formula after 12 months....but lots of people still use it. I will be for one feed a day after DD turns one. Cow's milk is fine in place of formula but if she isn't keen on that, water is a perfect alternative as long as her calcium is covered by other foods. Is EBM an option? (Sorry, you've probably already thought of that but just thought I'd throw it out there )
EBM isnt an option, i have never been able to express more than about 40mls! not worth it!
i use glass bottles too (for her one formula feed at night) and i dont think they would like glass being brought in. i think i will just get them to offer her the cows milk in a cup and water and see how that goes.
although. she might need a bottle to help her go to sleep... i dunno! LOL
It's tough at this age!! Does she normally have a bottle before her day sleep? Maybe try to get her used to whatever it is you want her to do at daycare, while at home.....ie if you want to encourage water or milk.....I'm not suggesting reduce the BF's though......hmmmm.....sorry I'm not much help.....If it was me, I'd just go with offering milk and water during the day if she's not used to a bottle during the day. That way she won't expect it when at home too IYKWIM?
Personally i wouldnt bother with milk at daycare. If u replace her middle of the day boobie feeds with formula its just setting you up for breast refusal when shes not at daycare.
My DD (17 months) has just gone off formula all together, but she stopped the middle of the day milk at about 10 months and was fine with just water.
Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong.. its just my personal opinion and understanding.
yeah it makes sense not to offer a middle of the day bottle. especially cause this is kinda the time when babies are starting to be weaned OFF the bottle altogether hey.
she goes to sleep with a a booby sometimes during the day, or sometimes i just rock her to sleep. she has water whenever (ther is usually a cup laying around) and boob whenever she wants too.
as long as i know that she isnt SUPPOSED to be having more formula/breast during the day then i think it is fine that she just has water and cows milk in a cup at day care. i'm sure she gets enough over night anyway... :-)
