Ben just had his first birthday and yes, i did feel like an idiot wanting to have a theme when we were expecting only adults to come. I made a special baby cake, and decorated the house with balloons and a big "happy birthday" sign.

When it was time for the cake i was all ready to sing, but Dh told me that it's not the "thing" that German's do. So dissapointed all the old folk had already half demolished their cake by the time i had Ben's cake ready. I know this is all culture difference, but my point is, DO WHAT YOU WANT! Have a ball, decorate the house, and dont let anyone tell you you are being silly. After all, it has to be something that they all remember, especially you!
