    Smile 1st Birthday Present Ideas

DD's birthday isn't for 2 1/2 months but starting to think now what we would like to get her. I don't want to get her toys or clothes as such because she will prob get those of relatives and friends. We were thinking about getting a wooden toy box and/or maybe a kids table and chairs set.

I was just wondering if anyone had any other cool ideas - something I may not have thought of! What did you get your kids (in particular daughter) for their 1st birthday?

    Thanks!

    What about a rocking horse.

A friend of mine her parents bought her kids one for christmas last year when she had a 2 year old and a nearly 1 year old and the younger child loves it more!!

Or a trampoline or swing set.

One of DS's best gifts from our friends was a rocking horse - he LOVED it... he got lots of bikes too... we got him a basketball ring as well (like a tiny one) and he loves to shoot hoops - not very "girly" I know, but basketballers can be chicks too.. lol
We got him a chair of his very own to sit in from IKEA and he loves that too - thats where he eats (pulled up to the coffee table)

I got my daughter last year for your 1st b'day a gold baby bracelet that you can engrave a name on ... which had an extended chain on it so she can also wear when she is older ... a treasured keepsake & hopefully one day an heirloom

My younger sister got her a beautiful porcelain doll

... and my older sister got her a tiny little tiara

Her 89year old great-great uncle got her, her very 1st doll's pram

and her great-uncle got her a rocking horse !!

My Dad made her a beautiful doll's cradle !!!!

Table & Chairs is a good idea. That's what DD got from her grandparents. She loves climbing on it.

Or a trike??? One of those ones that they can ride on and push themselves along or use pedals and that also has a handle at the back so you can push her.

    Paper and Crayons?

A doll. Just around the time of her first bday DD got interested in dolls. i know, you didn't want to do toys, but that's hard...

A sandbox if you have a backyard..

Sorry, I'm all out of ideas.

We decided to get our kids furniture for their first birthdays too - our first got a toybox, our first DD got a table and chair set which we brought in plain timber and then painted; our 2nd DD got a toy box (in the Flowers theme from the Off The Wall range - gorgeous it is) and we will get A a bookshelf in the traffic theme from the Off The Wall range too.

DH and I bought Daniel some "Megablocks" for his first birthday. They're big legos. He looooves them.

To start off with he would just carry them around because they're brightly coloured, but now - four months later - he builds things.

I'm really glad I bought them for him - they're a real dexterity item. He exercises his little brain coordinating putting the blocks together.

I guess kids aren't really fussy at 1 year of age but I think, something that they can keep as they get older is nice.

My mum swears blind she's going to buy Jack a shaving kit for his 1st birthday because he was a furry little thing when he was born...he still has a faint mustache...poor love.

DD got a table & chair set from her grandparents which she still loves & uses every day, she's now 3. She also loved her dolly & pram she got, once again something she still enjoys today, she enjoys it more now though LOL

If you've got the room on the back yard maybe a cubby house/ play gym type thing. We got DD a second hand one off ebay for her second Christmas, she would have been about 20 months old. She LOVED it & still does.

I hope I've been of some help

I'm in a similar boat, not sure what to get DD for Christmas this year & will be laybying it when the toy sales start soon..... its so hard every year!

My DS spent HEAPS of time in his sandbox after he turned 1, so that would be a fabulous present. Mine were really into swings, trampolines, see-saws and that sort of thing.

DS also loved his toy mower that he pushed around after DH.

for both our girls we bought them a flip out sofa on their first birthday as well as a personalised plate (that is more of a keepsake than a usable item iykwim). The plate had their full name and their birth date on the front with a message from mummy and daddy on the back.

My 3&1/2 year old still loves to use her couch and my now 1year old thinks they're great for tumbling all over
