7 1/2 mnths not crawling and not liking lumpy solids..
Isabella is 7 1/2 months! (wow where did the time go!?!)
She loves to sit and can lean back and fwds and side to side and even put her forhead on the ground and come back up again to sitting no worries at all. Lattely she likes is when you stand her up and hang onto her hands - she can stand for 5-10 mins at a time before her knees buckle and she likes to stand so that she is holding coffee table or couch (with me holding her waist but not solding her up) and she had started trying to pull her slef up on things - juts her legs will not co-operate at the moment.
BUT she HATES tummy time and will not stay on her tummy for more than 5 mns before she screams. She also doesnt roll around much at all.
Is this a problem?? She is hitting all her other milestones - 2 teeth (bottom) and her top teeth are on the way = she says Dada, nanna (no mumma ) and she is eating well and sleeping through. Im getting worried - does she NEED to be crawling / rolling?? Or maybe just go straight to walking??
Also..
Bella loves her food but likes it quite smooth - she eats well and eats a variety of fruits and veggies - but she really doesnt like lumps! I tried her with some mince today and she would juts makes faces and spit it out! She also is not a huge fan of finger foods either... is this a problem??
To me I can't see anything to worry about, it all sounds normal to me, babies do things in there own time and she is doing thing and developing. I would not worry about it, with my first I was given to 10 months for her to roll and sit unadid wich did, the day before her 10 month check. So I think you girl is going great guns.
Oh hun....you really need to try and stress less, LOL. Bella is perfectly normal.
I'm sure you've seen videos of Jack on FB and how active he is, jumping on his trampoline etc, etc... Well, he didn't crawl until he was 8 months old!!! He hated tummy time...but would pull himself up to stand before he could even crawl. All babies will do things at different rates, and will do new things when they are ready. It is easy for me to say, I know, I think you stress less when you have had four! Sometimes I get a bit worried as some of Jack's little friends can say a few words (most of them are 12 weeks older than him though) and Jack not really saying "words" but he can run like the wind!! while a lot of them are still toddling. They are all different hun, and Bella sounds completely normal!
As for the lumpy food, I don't really have any advice on that except for try not to stress, LOL. You said she eats well and loves her food, that's all that matters. She will like it lumpier eventually, just keep offering and one day she will take it.
ETA: Jack didnt get his first tooth till 8 months, and still only has six.
Thanks Marlene! Yeah I know I need to stress less and Im *usually* ok but its when ppl start the " Oh she isnt crawling yet..." that makes you second guess things!
DS was not even eating any solids properly till 8 months started relaly well at 6 months for 10 days then refused so after 1 week of trying and offering i then was adviced to stop for a few weeks. So at 7 and 1/2 months we re started. Slowly and surely he took it and by 10 months was eating lumps and most things offered to him.
As for sitting he has sat up since 8 months but still does not get himself to a sitting position.
Crawling he is comando crawling and rolling everywhere (have floor boards and told this is often case) he didnt actually start comando crawling till 10 months.
so i think all you have said is fine relax and dont stress and let babies be babies they will develop in there own time.
ETA ds hated tummy time till he worked out how to move!
And FWIW, my DS refused ALL SOILD FOOD until he was 10 months. And my DD only just leant to roll over last week and she can't sit at all (but she loves all food, especially finger food).
ALL BABIES ARE DIFFERENT! And I reckon most mummies know when something is really wrong and they go and get help.
Ill TRY to stop... cant promise it tho! And your right - I KNOW that she is perfect and I know she will do it all in good time! Thanks for making me listen to myself again!! xox
Kate- DD1 crawled at 9 months and didnt say mum til 12months....hhmmmm
DD2 who is the same age as Bella loves rolling around but really cant take her own wait and can only stand for less than a minute before she buckles at the knees. Oh and she can say mum
All bubs are different, even ones from same families. Relax and trust me...enjoy it while she isnt moving much! The things they get into!
Sam can sit, he's a bit wobbly and face-plants because he gets distracted by his feet, but he can sit well. However, the latest thing is that he loves to stand just as you described with Bella. Now we have trouble putting him anywhere to sit because he always puts his legs underneath himself to try to stand!
Sam spent a week figuring out the rolling thing. He got from back to tummy quite well, and then spent another week figuring out how to get from tummy to back... and then after two days of rolling both ways, he simply stopped. We know he can, but he won't.
Personally, I really hope Sam's NOT crawling at seven and a half months! I'm not ready for a mobile baby!
She'll figure out the eating and the moving when she's ready and not before. And how early or late she does it isn't any indication of how successful she will be later in life.
Sam's a big fan of mush - but we've picked one meal each day (the one where he's least interested in eating and therefore doesn't need the volume) to give him fingerfoods. He doesn't eat much, but I figure it's just as important for him to experience the other aspects of food apart from nutrition.
You're doing a great job, and like the others have said - stop worrying!
Kate - Zander is nearly 10 months and not crawling - he hates tummy time with a passion too -but Ithink having the other two kids around bringing him things all the time instead of having to work for it have hindered too LOL He also doesnt think food is very nice at all - but he looks happy and healthy and sleeps well.
It is so hard not to compare I know!
My first son didnt crawl until 11 months and walked at 14 months, yet my teensy DD was 7.5 months when she crawled and 12 months to walk .....
I won't say that I dont worry about it either (cos yeah, just ask my DH how many times I say - he should be showing some interest in rocking on his knees by now ) - but he looks just fine which puts my concerns at bay (for a week )
Neither of my two crawled until 9mths. My DD barely even then, it was more of a shuffle and then she was walking at 10months. Whereas my DS started crawling at 9mths but didn't start walking until 15mths. kids are all different and do tings in there own time. You have to remember that these milestones are averages, and there is often a huge rang of variance in between.
Kate, Another sympathiser here too... My DS sounds like BW's Sam, in that once he has done something, he has no interest in doing it again lol.... DS is a week away from being 1 year and 1 month old, and he still has a dislike of lumpy foods. We can add a few lumps here and there to certain things, but generally, he cant stand lumps. It's funny though, as he loves vegemite on toast, and will quite happily chow down on that. I've tried giving him spag bol a couple of times, and he doesnt seem to like the texture of the mince either.
I find myself worrying somedays, and other days I get frustrated that he will never eat normally...then i think that when he is 5,10,15 years old he will probably be eating me out of house and home.. so in the end I'm sure he (and me) will get there, it's just going to be a little journey that we have no idea on how long it will be!
My DS loved to commando crawl too, he seems to be in no hurry to try new things (unless it is a shiny new remote control sitting around) I just have to remind myself that he is a pretty cruisey bubba....(except for his sleep)
Just thought I would add my experiences with Emily too as her and Isabella a really close in age also.
Emily doesn't crawl yet and doesn't seem like she will at all any time soon, and she doesn't really like tummy time all that much. She doesn't roll much either - she can definitely do it from tummy to back and reverse, but chooses not to, mostly. She'd rather cry for me to pick her up off her tummy than to roll over!! If you pop her on her hands and knees she can hold herself there for a few seconds before collapsing, but that's it.
She sits up really well - doesn't tip over at all, and is now learning to get down on to her tummy from sitting, but then hates being on her tummy immediately after!
She mostly loves standing. She can walk along whilst holding on to your hands (very wobbly, but absolutely loves it) and can hold herself up against the couch on her own fine, but will fall over regularly. She's learning to bob her knees up and down at the moment when standing too. She's got her father's legs - giant tree trunk ones, very strong - she looks like she has michellin man legs! - hence she's up and on her feet a lot.
So there are things that are similar about Emily and Isabella, and other things that aren't - back to individual babies again!
One thing I thought I might add is that crawling is not a developmental milestone that babies are judged to be progressing at the right rate on, unlike sitting unaided, grasping things, babbling, smiling etc. (and even with those things there is soooo much range in what is considered "normal"). This is because babies really do crawl at such different times, different ways, and some babies even skip over the crawling altogether before they are walking (Rufalina's DS did this, as an example).
The lumpier food and finger foods all take time, so you can only continue to keep offering and in time she will be ready for them. Emily is not so keen on lumps and filters them out, but every now and again she will swallow a lump and is fine with it - I guess she will accept lumps more often as time goes on. I am making the transition for her by having coarser purees where I mash all her food instead of wizzing it up. Have you tried that? With finger foods, just keep offering lots of different things from day to day, and then one day something will really take Isabella's interest and you won't be able to stop her from gobbling it up - it's all about fun and exploration with finger foods - some things will be interesting to her individually and some things won't.
It sounds like Isabella is doing really beautifully - sleeping well, happy and alert and eating well, so hopefully all the pictures of different bubs here help put things in perspective and help you feel more reassured about how well she is doing! Congratulations on your beautifully developing girl, hun!
My DD is going through a phase of not liking lumpy foods or vegies (I've had to mix with yoghurt to get her to eat a few times ) think its just their age/phase thing.)
She isn't crawling yet either but I take her to the paed physio's for progress checks on her for something else, and here's what they told me the other week: They said babies should crawl, shuffle or walk by 10/11 months and not to worry until then. And that if want to help strengthen those muscles to take a the couch seating cushion off and pput it on the floor and kneel bub up against cushion for a while as is just right height for them to lean on their arms/chest while learn they can kneel etc Also is good if they hate tummy time.
