my son is 9 months. He only takes a few bites of food then refuses to eat. At breakfast he is ok, but at lunch and dinner its a battle to get even 4 bites in. He is teething. I have tried all sorts of different foods. Its very fustrating. But with fruits he is ok and loves to eat it. Im not sure what to do.
maybe relax a little... "food is fun until they are one"
one thing i used to do was give the "dinner" meal at lunch. its ok to swap it all around so they get a better selection of foods if they only eat at breakfast.
My now 3.5yo was very similar. He refused to eat any solids till he was 8mths old and was very slow on the uptake.
I'd offer him finger foods that he could feed himself because he was very much needing to be in control and was anti spoon.
Some examples of what I got him to eat are for breakfast I made him sticky porridge that he could pick up. ie make it thick and let it go pretty much cold so it congeals.
For lunch a philly cheese sandwich cut up into very small cubes as he didn't get any teeth till he was 11 mths and for dinner a little bit of fried mince or finely sliced chicken and steamed vegies (carrot corn and cauli etc).
Everything got put on the tray and he helped himself so BLS essentially.
It's frustrating but backing off and letting him be in control is the way to go because it's not worth getting upset over.
My DS always went off his food when he was teething, is he always like this or just since he has been teething?
DS was about 9/10 mnths before he started having 3 meals a day before that it was only ever 2 so it sounds to me that your LO is right on track.
Don't stress - he won't be drinking just milk forever! . If he's sleeping fine, growing fine, and still pooing and weeing, don't stress about it, and try not to battle it out with him. He'll eat what he'll eat, and he'll eat HEAPS sooner rather then later....
I wanted to add my 'don't stress' vibes. My LO didn't get into solids in any meaningful way until about 12 months. Before that, he just fiddled around with them and wasn't very interested (although, like your LO, he did always like fruit).
I was stressed about it, worried he would never get there, but he did. They all do, eventually!
I would give him what he likes (fruit), and keep trying other things, but not stressing if he rejects them.
