air travel with toddler & liquid restrictions

    Hi,

We are travelling to Europe next month and we are aware that we are not allowed to take more than 100mls of "liquid" on the plane. We are travelling with Singapore Airways - when I called to confirm this they said, I should take a few bottles of 100mls each - they recommended 10 bottles to get 1 litre!!! This sounds preposterous, I feel we mums are being discriminated against - surely taking cow's milk on board should be allowed - I would be more than happy to taste it for them - if necesary! If they make up these strict rules there needs to be a contingency plan in place - provide cow's milk/soy milk etc. for the little ones!!!I wonder what mums with children who have intolerances (lactose etc.)are supposed to do?

Does any one who has travelled overseas with a little one have any thoughts on this? - is UHT (longlife milk) in little sachets a better option than taking cow's milk (I worry about spoilage) - I'm sure they won't have fresh milk on board (not enough anyway since my DD is a milkaholic!) ...any ideas much appreciated!

When we went to Bali recently, they let us take a bottle of water for the boys - it was one of those Tupperware kids sports bottles and was more than 100ml. We also needed liquid antibiotics and childrens' panadol as both boys were ill and we had no trouble with that - the panadol was a 200ml bottle.

I would say try taking it on in a cheap bottle (such as reusing a bottled water bottle) so that it doesn't matter if you lose it, but if you can get it on it's all good. Also, to keep the medicine and water cold, we used frozen fruit (apples and oranges) as well as a gel pack, so we didn't use ice packs which would melt and become liquid.

i just traveled with singapore to the uk and i had a sippy cup of water that i hadnt emptied before i went through, the man let me take it cause ''i needed it for the little on on the plane'' but made me chuck my bottle of sun cream away cause it wasnt needed on the flight. it struck me how easy they were on me, cause i had DD. Others around me were having bag checks and being frisked, i had food and fruit in my bag, cups of water, none regulation size hand luggage and they just smiled and waved me through. but i may have just been lucky with the people i got! sounds silly having to take so many little bottle. you can get those little bags that you can store EBM in, little plastic bags with ml marks on the side, might be better that 10 bottles! and i didnt notice any large containers of milk on the plane, just the tiny ones for tea!! you can get stuff after you have gone trough check in, maybe they would have a shop where you can get milk to take on the plane.

I have just been overseas (last month).. This is done just after immigration, so is the same for all airlines, but if you get a nasty security officer they may make you taste it, however tell then what you have for baby, and it should be fine..

Do not take any liquid except what is necessary on the plane cause you will be asked to get rid of it (i.e deodorants, skincare etc).. Duty free will need to be bought once through security checkpoints..

Leaving Brisbane wasn't an issue, we had 3x200 mls bottle cows milk, and a sippy cup of water, and some anchovies.. All were fine and didn't have to test any of them.

Coming back from Christchurch, we weren't allowed to take water through. You could take the empty bottle and fill it up once through (not sure if this was the same for water steralised for formula though as ours was just a sippy cup). We also had cows milk. The girl at the check in looked ever so horrified and said that we would have to sample it.. No big deal on our part, but we just told security what we had, they X-rayed it and all was good, also having a child with you is also a giveaway that you might need to feed them, LOL..

They have to give you the worst possible case of what might happen. Each airline has their own guidlines, but this check is done just after immigration and the security staff don't check to see where you are going..

I have travelled to Canada 6 times in the last 2 years with babies.

    My advise
take sachets of formula or toddler milk drink ithink its vanilla from S-26 or something. And dont bother taking any milk with you its pointless they have fresh milk on the plane and plenty of it for everyone. not a big deal at all. Press your little button and the stewart will get it for you warm it up if need be.

When you have children if you put the liquid, panadol etc in a ziplock. When you go through security they will ask if its for baby medicine food etc.. you say yes as it is they will open the bag have a look and send you on your way!

    So not a big deal.
