Amber teething necklaces and sleeping.

Haven't read through all... cos well... I'm being lazy lol...

I have left Elijah's on since he got it... hmmm I think he was around 8 months old? It's on all the time, swimming, bathing, sleeping etc. Most of them I think use the same screw clasp? Those are designed to break under too much pressure... secondly, the size of these necklaces are quite small and to hook onto something would be a fairly difficult feat, especially in a cot where there isn't anything I can think of that it could get hooked on.

My DD wore hers at the age of 3 months. I had no dramas. I now wear hers as a bracelet (wrapped twice around my wrist) and she still gets the benefits from me as we cuddle lots!!

There are a couple of warning websites about this - one from the Office of Fair Trading, and another site, saying there are fake amber necklaces.

I only take DS's off for baths as I don't want the thread to weaken. If I remember to put it on again in the mayhem that is getting dressed for bed in our house, then he wears it to bed!

Well I decided to leave it on, and for night sleeps loop it through her first press stud on her suits (THANKYOU to whoever suggested that, genius!). I probably won't even worry about that soon, but seeing as she's going 7-10 hours overnight atm I just want to be sure she's cool with it. I bought one for myself too, I love it.

The office of Fair trading have been cracking down on alternate methods for teething relief...I am guessing the companies that own Panadal and nuerofen maye be seeing a decline in theirs sales so kicked up a stink lol

We bought ours from Amberbebe which come with a authenticity certificate but mumma rocks is great too!

Lucinda has been wearing hers from around 4-6 weeks. It never comes off her.

Was just giving my opinion. I must admit Im extremely paranoid myself about necklaces and hate wearing them myself in my sleep, makes me feel strangled (but again thats my issue due to a past incident) which also impacted on my decision to take off at night and naps.

I do how ever think that the stud snap idea is fantastic.

Thanks for this thread PZ, I've been wondering the same thing. Although ours didn't arrive in today's post, I have to wait all weekend :( I got/am getting mine from a site called Whiskers on Kittens. They have the authenticity thing too, and five tests you can do to confirm it's real amber.

No way Ness!! That's why I said in my OP, one person I wouldn't rake advice from and one BB lady I would (you) :) I love the stud idea too!

I would say PZ there are some not so good supposedly amber necklaces that do pose a hazard - that is why fair trading have that advice. The one I have been given as a gift has a good screw clasp, it is knotted, appears to be genuine on the website - but I don't think it is a genuine one.
