I'm just wondering, cause I think my 4 month old DS is starting to get a bit too long for it to be rear facing. He's got good enough neck control for it to be front facing I think, so would it be okay to turn around then?
Also, this is sort of related - when did you stop putting your bub in the baby trolleys, and just sit them in the front of regular trolleys? I just don't think my DS can support himself sitting up enough to do it yet.
Hey Sterla.....my car seat says 9kgs when it can be turned around. DD2 isnt far off that but I dont think she has good enough head control yet. I remember we also waited with dd1 due to head control issues AND its much more safer facing the rear. Also you have to think about when they fall asleep in the seat. I remember it took dd1 ages to be able to keep her head up when she slept on a car ride. Theres nothing worse with a baby with a sore neck from it hanging down....and again not so safe if you even had a little bingle with their head hanging. Hope that helps
It is now actually recommended that you keep your bub rearward facing for up to 12 months if possible. I kept DS2 rearward until he turned 1, it doesn't matter if their legs are a bit long, they still fit
ETA - I saw the same clip that Mel is referring to and that is the sole reason I chose to turn DS2 around at 12 months and not earlier. I will try hunt down the thread with the link
We turned ds' chair around 2 wks ago and he sits in the trolley chair (not the baby ones). I found if I kept him laying down he'd keep trying to sit forward to see everything plus he has great head control.
DS still rear facing at 11 months!! will turn him around in a few weeks at 1 year old.
He started sitting up in trolley at about 5 months but to be honest lying down is easier as they cant try and suck on skany metal thing that joins trolleys! forver taking it off him and having him crack sads!
My dd is still facing backwards in the unity capsule and she is 11 months. I have talked to safe n sound and thye said when the top straps are equall or below her sholders she to tall it is not there leg length. She actually puts her feet up on the rebound bar. Has great head control, and is nearly walking unaided. So she is definetly developmentally ready but I think the longer backwards the better.
DD1 was turned around at 12 months and we will probably do the same for DD2.
I didn't sit DD1 up in the trolley until she could sit properly unaided - it hurts if they fall on to the metal seats. I used to use a sling or clip the capsule onto the end of the trolley (the S&S Unity ones can do this) until she could sit in them.
At almost 6 months old, Sam still does better in the baby trolleys. We have a trolley snug and tried him in a regular trolley last week because there weren't any baby trolleys available... while he sits quite well, he just wasn't in the mood for it that day and DH had to spend the time supporting him at the sides and pushing the trolley. He tries to sit up all the time in the baby ones - I just don't know what to do with this kid!
As for the car seat - we'll keep him rearward as long as we possibly can.
DS (1 year old) is still facing rearward, although I think we will turn him soon. In his nana's car he faces forward and he really likes it. I will keep him rearward until he gets too antsy about it!
As far as the trolly goes, he started sitting in that once he could sit up properly. At first I would put a blanket in with him to keep him comfy, but now he doesn't need that. But I totally agree with feeb- he loves to eat that horrible chain thing that hooks the trolleys together. I turn away for one second and BAM its in the mouth- ew!!
