Baby humping floor?

Hi,

My son started laying on the floor and repeatitively raising and lowering his pelvis at 10 months of age. (Rest assured he has NEVER witnessed this action!!!! LOL) I have mentioned it to the doctor when I had to take him when he had started to rub his skin raw at one point. The doctor had no answers and said he would probably grow out of it. He is now nearly 15 months and still does it. He does it when he is tired and it seems to sooth him. I googled it and some articles mention that this could be signs of autism so now I'm really concerned. My other children have never done this.
I don't know whether to ignore it or say no when I see him doing it. When I googled it I came across other people whose sons or daughters have done this but they were old posts so I couldn't query if they outgrew it or if it was a sign of something else.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

My female cousin did this from about the same age until she was 5 or 6, she used to do it to go to sleep. She just stopped one day & didnt do it again

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it. He does it when he is tired mostly and has actually fallen asleep while doing it. Somedays he doesn't do it at all, I just hope he out grows it sooner rather than later. Thanks

The advice I got regarding DD about this sort of behaviour is to distract the child and draw their attention to something else. And not to worry as they're just finding another 'feeling', e.g. pleasure.

My DD3 does this too. She started at 10 months and is still going strong at 16 months. It has bothered me no end. She does it when she is bored or tired. Since she has started walking she is doing it less and if we are out and she is occupied I haven't seen her do it thankfully. Most of the advice I got was to use distraction (not always possible). Also don't label it or draw too much attention to it. If my dd is still doing this at an older age I intend on making sure she does it in her room only, but she is too young atm. I read on a Dr. Sears website that this had nothing to do with developmental issues or autism. Please let me know if you find any other information.

Just thought i would add. A little boy at playgroup has done this from very early on and he is gradually growing out of it at the age of 3.5. There is certainly no sign of autism either

My DS did it too, but I can't recall when he stopped doing it (but he did!). He shows no Autism spectrum signs. Your DS will probably just grow out of it..
