Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has seen anything on the market or has any ideas on how to baby proof kitchen drawers. They are in the middle of cupboards so i can't use those side latches, and we can't put the normal type locks inside as there is no support bar running underneath / above each drawer to attach them to. I've had to take my two bottom drawers hide them and now she is standing up she wants to pull the top drawers out and i'm worried shes going to jam her little fingies... please help
Hi sounds like the same kind of drawers that we have throughout our kitchen and I spent ages trying to work out how we could do it too. What i did was buy the safety 1st cupboard latches that have a spring inside them (the type you can fold down when not in use) and attched them sideways to one side of each drawer as they couldnt attach above or they would just slide out the top drawer. I drilled the latch onto the inner left side of the front of the actual drawer and then the keeper part that they lock in to was drilled to the inside of the cabinet (above where the drawer runners go).Gosh that sounds very confusing doesnt it...hope you can make sense of it. It was the only way for us as the drawers have cupboards on one side and more drawers on the other.
hi there, we had the very same problem with our kitchen drawers. however, i stumbled upon safety latches for drawers from Ikea. they attach to the side, rather than a top support beam. and the best thing about them is that they have a catch, so that once the drawer is opened a little bit (maybe a couple of cms) the latch is caught, so that you cant push the drawer back in (to catch little fingers!), and of course you cant pull it out fully either. so my little man pulls on the drawer, it opens a little bit, but then cannot budge in or out so he gives up and moves on to something else! its easy for adults to open, just slide your finger in at the side and release the catch. and they were really cheap.
If they have handles (knobs) thick rubber bands looped between each one works a treat.........(we did this in a rental when we didn't want to screw in drawer catches.......)
