    Which bath for baby?

    Hi all,

Just a bit confused about which bath to get for bub. Where did you bath your newborn? I thought about the laundry sink but we also clean kitty litter tray there so DF not keen on that idea.

So, is a bath on a stand good? Or a baby bath that goes in your actual bath and you lean over?

I was looking at the Fisher-Price Aquarium bath with the hammock thing and using one of those tubsider things that supports your back as you kneel? Can anyone comment on either of these products?

Thanks in advance for your replies - I really appreciate it. Preparing to be a mumma is trickier than I thought!!!

I bathed my son in a baby bath (plastic kind you get at target, kmart etc), on our kitchen table until he was too large to fit in there. We had a hammock thingy inside it (towelling on a wire frame..I think this is what you mean?) We jug or bucket filled filled it, so no carrying around a bath etc. Its also a lot easier on your back as there is less leaning and bending

This was good as it uses a lot less water than the big bath, and it was easier to get the water outside nd no to the garden afterwards.

once he was sitting, we moved to the regular bath. Sometimes on of myself or DH will get in with him, other times we sit over the side.

We looked at the FP one too - its a bit pricey - so got a normal bath and you can get a little hammock thing to sit in it if you feel its too slippery! HtH!

We used a plastic baby bath but she outgrew it within a fortnight . It was FANTASTIC for us though because I had a c-sect and could bath her on the bench and DH just put the water on the garden. We did shower with her for a while but it is a two person job so now we bath her in one of those plastic chair thingy's (get them from Target) in the big bath.

Thanks ladies. Some great ideas there.

I think the FP bath seems quite small and I'm conscious of bub growing out of it too quickly. I like the idea of using less water and putting it on the garden after.

There are a couple of baths with stands on Ebay for around $25 so maybe I'll go that way.

We had a plastic bath but DD grew out of it quickly. So we now just used the normal bath, or she goes in the shower with DH or me

I hated using a baby bath - we stopped using it really soon.
I would have recomended your laundry sink but then you mentioned the kitty litter.
When I wasn't using the laundry tub I used to just use the big bath with just shallow water up to around ear height or just take them into the shower with me and get DH to come and dry the baby while I finished up in the shower.
If I'm in a hurry to get us all clean I still use the shower - its a bit of an adventure sharing a shower with 2 toddlers rofl.

I just bought the FP bath today - it was on sale at Toys R Us for $49. Looking at it now, it may be a little small for when baby is older, but the hammock thing inside is what attracted me to it in the first place for when bubs is a newborn. Good luck deciding on a bath! (I can't use our bath b/c it is a very deep and large spa - and would just waste way too much water!)

My sister gave me their baby bath which we used.. there was also one in the change table but wouldve been too much hassle to clean out etc. But once Jesse was too big for the baby bath we got a lay down seat that you just put in the big bath. You can use them from birth and i think theyre a great idea. You can get them at Big W.

Thanks again everyone. Still not entirely sure. But it can't be THAT hard, right?

I did a few sums last night and scared myself which is why I'm starting to second guess original decisions re buying stuff. Want to avoid buying stuff that I won't end up using but I guess, everyone is different and it will be really hard to know what will suit me and my bub until we're in there doing it for real!

Please dont bath your baby in the same place as kitty litter because no matter how well you scrub the risk is still there.
Don't stress Caro - that was the whole point - I WON'T be using it because of the kitty litter.

I have the FP bath and i love it...............baby doesn't slide at all, and underneath the hammock is a seat for when baby gets bigger.

My gf lent me hers that she bought from BigW. It is one on a stand and she suggested that I put it in the shower as it is easier to fill up and you can just drain any water straight down the shower or drain into a bucket for the garden. It just fits in our bathroom shower. I thought this was a great idea but the only problem I see is taking bubs out of the bath, I'll have a wet baby on the change table and where do I put the baby products that I want to use?

Like neverplan I found it easier bathing or showering with baby. I used their rocker with a nappy on the seat and then their towel ready to wrap them when finished and can then get a towel around self before worrying about dressing. Or while one of you baths/showers with them the other takes over in the drying and dressing department. This is so much easier than bending over baths but you do get the problem of them wanting it to continue for years after.

We have a baby bath, but I find it difficult and done really like using it... so I now bathe Claire in the big bath, and I get in also. I find it alot easier. Sometimes I wash her in the shower when I am in there and then hubby takes her and dries and dresses her.
