    Time with dad

My DS is now three weeks old and is generally a happy bub. My problem is that over the last week or so, he only wants to be held by me. DH is back at work so only has the morning and evening to see William. Unfortunately, he will only let DH hold him for a few minutes before he starts to cry for me. Most of the time he isn't even hungry, will just have a couple of little comfort sucks then lay happily in my arms. DH does bath time every night which DS likes so they get that bit of time together, but I think DH is getting frustrated that he can only spend a tiny bit of each day holding bubs. Does anyone have any advice on how to make DS happier to be with other people?

My bubby did this too. We just had to go with it and wait till he got past it. I think they really just want their mum so much and you'd have the milk smell. You could try giving DH a shirt you've just had on for him to put across his chest or over his shoulder so your little man smells you. Didn't work for us but have heard of it working. They do grow out of this ... I think part of it is they don't yet understand that you are still there and they will get fed again! My DH also did the bath thing. Also maybe try to see if your DH can hold bub the same way you do?? It may just be a matter of waiting it out though and let your DH know it's seriously not him or his fault!!

Thanks for the advice, I figured it was normal but it is hard on DH because he really wants to spend time with DS. We might have it figured though - tonight when bub started getting grumpy when DH was holding him I whipped out a breast pad and stuck it on his shoulder. DS wriggled over to it, laid quietly for a while then fell asleep.

Arte - that is a fab idea with the breastpad and so glad it worked..
my Dh also takes Noah for a walk when he gets home (sometimes with me and sometimes without me) and also had a shower with him (we alternate this) and both of them love this time...

Awwww loves the smell of mummy's milk.. how adorable! Glad you have found something which works.. if I have another bub I will have to remember that cos the shirt thing didn't work, but the breast pad makes sense!
