Question Boiled Water v Tap Water

Okay, so this might be a stupid question but I have no idea what to do...

I'm currently boiling tap water and letting it go cold before giving it to my bub but I know others who give their bub water straight from the tap... Should I still be boiling his water first or is tap water okay around this age (7 months)??

And does anyone know the reason for not just giving straight tap water to babies?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm more inclined to boil the water first too. Boiling kills any nasty germs/bacteria that might be lurking in the water.

We also have spring water here at home (Neverfail) and I've given him that without boiling it hehe. So I dunno really I just go by what I would drink. I dont' like drinking straight out of the tap, so I won't give bub water straight out of the tap, unless we're desperate

I boiled water for bottles until around 11 months. I read recently that it is recommended until 12mths. When DS started having water in a cup, I just used tap water to slowly introduce tap water.

I think the reason to boil it is just to kill off any bugs/germs that could be too much for their little systems.

I never worried about it too much by that age, cause they drink some in the bath and you wash their bottles etc in tap water. I know the water in Wagga can taste a bit dodgy at times LOL, but it wouldn't harm him in any way to have plain tap water for drinking. I still used warm boiled water for bottles though. Bottled/filtered water has no flouride in it either, which is another thing to think of too.

Flynn's only ever had tap water, but he was BF till 9 months and we have a filter that takes everything including flouride out of the water.....

Thanks all! It's interesting to see/read what everyone else does!

Hehe, Sherie, our water in Wagga is the best I've tasted of many places...we're very lucky here to have such good water I think.

I use boiled (from Kettle) water for Xander's formula top-ups mainly as I know you really should when using formula.

But I'm pretty sure that for regular drinking, tap water is fine from about 6 months-ish depending on local water quality. That being said, I still do boil Xander drinking water - yet he drinks more from the bath so I don't know why I bother.
