I have a premmie who is now 5 weeks. he used to poop every nappy change(minimal amount). He is breastfed. He is having ample wet nappies and a normal amount of wind. He dosent seem to have any abdominal pain or complaints but he hasnt used his bowels in ten days. As my last baby is now 9 i couldnt remember if this is normal and was unable to get a hold of my mcn today. Any advice...please?
Can I suggest you give the ABA a call? One of their counsellors will be able to go through with you all the reasons why this could be happening. IMO, 5 weeks is a little young to be going 10 days between poos. It would be good to clarify whether or not it is actually a problem. Hopefully Barb will pop in and give you some advice too
Oh, how many times does your bub feed in 24 hours?
If you are breastfeeding, going up to 14 days with no poo is very normal, the are only getting rid of the extra breast milk they don't need. If you are FF I would contact a doctor to get it checked out.
My DS was in the NICU for the first 10 days of his life so I know how stressful it can be when they started doing something unusual.
I don't think that it is normal for such a young baby to go so long. I wouldn't be worried if bub was 4+ months old though.
I'd suggest to call the ABA like Janie said or the Maternal and Child help line (should be in the blue book) for advice.
My DS started going 7-9 days between poos at about 7wks or so. He still only goes once a week or week and a half. It is pretty normal for BF bubs not to go all that often. I'm pretty sure it's ok.
