Breastfeeding and hungry all the time!

    Hello everyone,

I am a first tine mum and I have a gorgeous baby girl who is 3 months old. She feeds every 3 hours during the day and she usually has one feed overnight. Just a question does anyone else find that breast feeding makes you hungry? Today I have been starving. I have been trying to lose my pregnancy weight so I have been exercising and eating pretty healthy. I have probably been eating too much though but I cant help it!

    Any similar experiences?

    Hi Firstbub,
I eat like foods going out of fashion, i make sure that its mostly healthy stuff though but i loooove it. I found that i lost all my pregnancy weight plus another 9kg, everyone thinks i don't eat but running around like a blue arse fly all day and feeding chunka i suppose i must burn it all off. One thing i found though is i really didn't loose to much weight in the first 3-4 mths, but after about 4mths it just started dropping off. I get worried though that once i stop breast feeding that i've got some bad habits to break, fingers crossed it won't be too hard to cut back on the food.

Yep. We need to remember that our bodies are working harder than normal to make milk so we need more energy! Try to rest and just make sure you eat well. If you are trying to lose weight (aren't we all?!!!) then have healthy snacks. I find f I eat lots of little things all day rather than a big meal I seem to be fuller. Things like fruit tubs, breaky cerial, yogurt, fruit, cup a soups....are what I go for, then the only big meal I eat is dinner with DH. I feel like some days all I do is eat!

Eating non-stop here too! Whenever my girlfriends come round they bring food too as they have seen me eat like a horse many times now. Flapjack rocks!

I breastfed both my girls, and used to eat like i was still pregnant - like a horse !. Water too, i could never get enough water - it used to be me, my handbag and my bottle of mount franklin, wherever i went, couldnt go anywhere without water.....

Yes me too. I put on more weight breast feeding than I did through out my entire pregnancy. Weird hey. I craved breakfast cereal (just right) all the time.

I eat twice as much dinner as DH and breaky and around 2 lunches every day.

Yep, me too. I eat like a horse and still lose weight. I am the butt of everyone's jokes atm because I eat so much. But I must need it so I just go with it and eat as much as I feel like. My biggest worry is that one day I won't be bfing and I'll still keep eating the same amount and end up the size of a house!

But I do eat like a horse........I have dinner, and then two hours later want dinner again and am scouring the pantry for yummy food! And I consume enormous amounts of water too, can't go anywhere without it , like mbear I take Mt Franklin with me wherever I go LOL!

I have actually gained weight in the last two months I eat so much! I obviously need to execise more

I eat more now than i did while pregnant.

I am starving all the time. problem with me is half the time I eat ice cream. Just can't ge tenough of the stuff. But I try to have it with fruit. I did decide to start taking elevit (didn't need it during pregnancy) and it has reduced my cravings.
I have found that if i forget to eat, bubs is much more unsettled in the afternoons, due to me not getting enough food i think.

All this talk is making me hungry. Off to have a second lunch lol
