We but DS into a bed on the weekend, things at night are great. He hops up, lays down & goes to sleep....I shut the door & haven't heard a peep each time til 7am the next day....YAY.
But his arvo nap is a total different story. We have left the cot up & first day he had nap in there. Next 2 days he didn't have one, just destroyed the room for a nice quiet hour!! grrrrr!!! today after pulling all his clothes out again he's back in the cot, he needs the nap as he didn't have one yesterday & he had a restless night...but how do I get him to have it in his bed
the cot & bed in the room is taking up way too much space, I just want the cot out....hmm perhaps with it gone he'll understand better.
mostly I'll say yes, but i think part of it is his age as much as anything, becuase he sleeps on the sleeping mats at daycare without issue, its just at home where he wont go to bed.
But like RayRay I think it was her age more than the bed. She stopped having a nap a few months after she turned 3 and I was happy enough to let it go.
we took out DD's cot so it wasnt an option, she has no toys in her room because when u think she's asleep she's really being quiet and breaking things!!! she used to pull all her clothes out but she got over it.
some days she sleeps, other days i put her to bed so she can have some 'quiet time' and she looks at her books for around an hour, gives me an hour of sanity too

I had no troubles moving Brendan over. His cot only stayed up for a few days.
He loves his bed and we love the freedom of it too. Due to some medical issues Brendan has an irregular sleeping pattern, which basically means he doesn't sleep the same times, wakes during the night and naps at different times in the day. The freedom means if he wakes at say 4am, we dont have to get out of bed to go to him, instead he comes in to us... lazy I know
Best move we made for both of us was that toddler bed
Only thing we found when putting #2 into a toddler bed was the door needed to be closed during the day but open at night. Length of daytime sleep didnt change either until nap was dropped completely around 3rd bday
thanks for the replies, Charlie is just 2 so I would like him to keep nap a bit longer....though he doesn't suffer too much without it...just me LOL.
He's now sound asleep in his cot, so he was tired. Think we need to take the cot out & go from there. I'm getting a little annoyed packing his clothes back into the draw each arvo! Oh well.
Never had any issues with my three... when we introduced a bed it was a full sized single bed so during the day naps i would start by reading a book then we would both lie down and if I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep most times he would follow.... but be really asleep. I actually found it harder when he used a cot. There seems to be so many half sized "toddler beds' around on the market these days but I never really understood why (except maybe if you had space issues) you would use one in preference to a full single bed. I love the option of hopping in next to my toddlers in their bed.... they settle so quickly that way.
ETA: my youngest has just turned 3 and I still hop in his bed at night to settle him.
Ah ok... our youngest has also co-slept with us in our very high queen bed from when he was a newborn so I guess he was used to the height from the start. These days he starts off in his bed at about 7pm and then walks down the hall into our bed at about 3 - 4am which is fine with us... although he doesn't do it every night.
just to clarify it is a King Single....so it's a big bed. We have one of those rails from Target, but he can still climb in & out. He hasn't gotten out once at night time yet or in the morn. But in the afternoon he slowly destroys the room LOL!! he was starting to take longer to sleep in the arvo when in his cot so perhaps he is ready to drop the nap.....with DH away for work ALL of the time I like an hour to myself in the arvo's.
I could lie with him easily, have done that at night to encourage him to lie down.....would prob end up asleep there myself!
It was never an issue for me, but have you thought that yo could put him in a portacot during the day?
THat way the space issue is resolved, and you can take it down when not in use.

I actually read the title wrong and thought it said toddler bed = LOTS of afternoon naps for you - to which my answer was going to be yes as I lie down with DD and we both have a little sleep - hope you find a solution that works for you (unless you want to take up my nap idea - it realy is great for you and DS )
