Chewing food, then putting it back on the plate (19mo)
DD has developed the habit in the last week of chewing foods (particularly meats and some vegies) then just as she is about to swallow she will take the whole thing out of her mouth and put it on her plate.
Last night we had a BBQ and I think she ended up chewing every piece of sausage and returning it to her plate without swallowing one piece.
She still has a decent appetite and is getting all she needs so not worried from a nutrition perspective - but is it likely a teething related behaviour? Texture issues? Just plain old normal 19month oddity that will pass?
I'm sure its normal, just dont recall DS doing it at any stage - Reassure me!

Oh my gosh! I'm with you! DS2 tonight was chowing down on chicken stir fry, I'm thinking "wow he's doing well tonight!" Then made a comment to DH, DH says "watch out, it's all in his cheeks" and then it all came out again. Half down his front, half I managed to catch. Gah.

My CHN says this is totally normal for around this age, in the case of my DD it was 18 months when I asked her about it. They get bored if they are not getting instant 'results', they want to try that other morsel on the plate right now, they don't like the feel of it in their mouth once chewed... Many reasons but most grow out of it.

Spock did that too at that age, still does it a little bit, but not as much. She use to always do it with meat, eg steak or stir fry meat...like she would chew and suck all the stuff out of it and all that was left was a dried up colourless flavourless tough bit that she would put back on her plate. Now she does it if she sees something else yummier and will take what she has currently got in her mouth out and put something else in.
